If you are looking for a quick getaway from the city, I suggest visiting the Catskills for 24 hours! I’ve been to the Catskills many times and I always tend to go during the fall. If you’ve read my last post, then you know that I’m a fall foliage enthusiast. I almost always know what to expect when I go, simply because it’s become a routine and tradition to visit the same spots. Below is my itinerary for the perfect, relaxing full day in the Catskills. *This schedule is based on arriving at the Catskills, just in time for a hotel check in, but can be easily modified depending on your preference.
I love staying at Eastwind because not only are the rooms perfect for a cozy getaway, but also because it’s only a 2.5 hour drive from Manhattan. The drive is very smooth and it’s beautiful to admire the changing leaves color. This year, I had the opportunity to experience the deluxe suite, which came with two king size beds and a private fireplace. I have to admit that the fireplace amenity was more pleasant than I thought! Even though it wasn’t cold during the end of October, it was still chillier than New York City. I wasn’t sure if we were going to use it, but we did and we didn’t want to leave our room once the fire started.
Most importantly, it was great to check into a spacious room where my guest and I had our own separate space. There are two doors that open both ways, which divided the room to give us privacy. We woke up to the quiet sounds of nature and could easily step out to get some fresh morning air. The property also delivers breakfast baskets, which definitely completed our mornings. It contained bread, pastries, yogurt and granola, and coffee and orange juice. We enjoyed it leisurely in front of the fireplace and it was the best way before tackling the day.
As you check out of Eastwind, I would say a drive to Kaaterskills Falls is a must. It is about 45 minutes from Eastwind and is also on the way back to the city. Kaaterskills Falls is a two-stage waterfall on Spruce Creek in the eastern Catskill Mountains of New York, between the hamlets of Haines Falls and Palenville in Greene County. You can visit if you want to do a proper hike as there are different trails or you can simply take a walk and visit the overlook area for beautiful views of the waterfall. Just note that it does get chilly the higher up you go, so make sure you dress accordingly!
Woodstock is another town that I simply adore. It’s a great, intimate place to visit for an afternoon or a drive by to upstate or coming back. Whenever I visit, I love to explore the shops and cafes on main street and take in the relaxing vibe. The people here are extremely friendly and like most small towns, there’s a familiarity and friendliness amongst locals. Along the drive, I also like to stop by random roads and take photos. I don’t often have an agenda when it comes to a getaway. A rough itinerary is great, but I always leave room for flexibility and I suggest you all do too!
After spending a late afternoon at Woodstock, you can drive back to the city and that concludes 24 hours in the Catskills. If you ask me, this is a relaxing itinerary. It combines nature, art, and culture all in one. I know that I would be returning next year and can’t wait to continue to make this an annual tradition!

Heading upstate is smart in the fall. The places you went are good. My favorite town there is Hudson which is about the same distance north as your first hotel.
Yes, I've been to Hudson and loved it!
