fall in New York City, autumn in NYC, things to do in NYC, fall in New York State, movies in the fall in New York City
Fall may be the shortest season in New York as it is embedded between intense heat and frigid temperatures. If you didn’t know already, New York is amazing in the fall season because there is so much to do and so much to see during this season. New York offers many activities and there’s something for everybody. So, if you are interested in heading to New York in the fall or you are currently looking for the best fall activities, here are some things on the ultimate bucket list of things to do in NYC.
The Best Fall Activities in NYC
See the fall foliage
You can see the annual spectacle of tree leaves changing into vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow. Go for a walk to see public parks and admire at the leaves changing colors. Some famous places to look around are:
Stroll Through Central Park
Central Park is just amazing, and it is one of the first places you should go to. Central Park looks so appealing, especially in the fall. It is enclosed by 843 acres situated between the upper east and upper west sides of Manhattan. Some famous places to visit in Central Park are:
• Bow Bridge
• Bethesda Fountain
• Strawberry Fields
• Belvedere Castle
Visit Museums
In late August, NYC’s museums and cultural institutions were given the green light to reopen. Due to some restrictions, you need to plan first and reserve a timed ticket. Here are some museums worth visiting:
- The Metropolitan Museum of art
- The Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum
- The Jewish Museum
- The Cloisters
Pick your own apple or pumpkin
Apples are the unofficial fruit of fall in New York state, and the state is one of the top five producers. Most places also offer festive fall delights like apple cider donuts, corn mazes, pumpkins, and hayrides. Here are some apple and pumpkin picking destinations in NYC:
• Masker Orchards
• Outhouse Orchards
• Fishkill Farms
• Barton Orchards
Dine indoors or outdoors
Indoor dining is back in NYC. But there are still some restrictions in place (check the restaurants for their policies before visiting). If you don’t like eating indoors, you can enjoy the al fresco dining experience as one of the amazing fall in New York City.
Stand on Edge
Edge is the highest outdoor sky deck in the western hemisphere, and it is open to the public in NYC. You can enjoy 360-degree views and lean on outward angled glass walls to see the city as you have never seen it before. You can also have light bites and a champagne bar with drinks.
Drive-in theaters
This pandemic caused many movie theaters to shut down, but people are experiencing a renaissance of drive-in theaters. This is a great idea to watch movies in the fall in New York City. You can gather your friends and family for this old-fashioned way to watch movies. Some drive-in theaters that remain open are:
Go bowling!
You can eat, drink and play games indoors in NYC. They have been allowed to reopen with the following SOPS. Many people go to places for bowling and the two more common ones are:

I do appreciate LA’s beautiful weather but I also have come to love the four seasons in NYC 🙂
I love how you can see the leaves without having to go far in NYC. We used to always go on Labor Day weekend to visit, but I’ve never been there in the fall.
