Who doesn’t love french food??? I love dining in restaurants that have delicious food and brings me back to another country. There’s nothing wrong with a good old American burger or a delicious, greasy slice of New York pizza, but your girl can’t be consuming that on a daily basis now that summer is right around the corner! I aim to eat healthy 90-95% of the week and I never really indulge or treat myself to something special. I believe in a healthy lifestyle because it actually makes me feel good and happy 🙂
However, every now and then, I will eat out and I think it’s important to explore different restaurants especially in NYC because there are so many cuisines to try. Tonight I had the great opportunity to visit Dominique Bistro, which is an Artisan French Cafe located in the West Village. The chef, Dominique Pepe had a great menu, which consisted of french cuisine and every single item sounded delicious. I always like to pick certain foods that I don’t consume daily because I mean, why choose something that you would eat regularly?
Here’s a rundown of what I ordered and my thoughts:
- Ahi tuna tartar: Literally the best ahi tuna tartar I’ve ever had in my life and I’m really not just saying that! I love tuna and one bite of this was a taste of heaven. I actually wish I was eating this as I am writing this review. I savored every single spoonful because I knew it was going to be gone within minutes. This plate was aesthetically pleasing and the portion size was also perfect for an appetizer and it made me even more excited for my entree. Seriously, I could’ve just ate this as the main course and would’ve been a happy camper.
- Cheese board: Okay people this wasn’t normal cheese and bread and I don’t remember the exact name of the cheese on the menu, but this was literally a cheese lover’s dream come true and my friend and I are the biggest cheese addicts in the world. You can see the crazy goodness in the pictures above! I swear I have no words because I wouldn’t be able to justify the deliciousness.
- Duck Confit: Now duck is not something I normally crave for, but it was one of those ‘what the heck, mind as well’ moments. I’m not in love with duck, but I do like it and I’m really glad I ordered it. I usually opt for steak or salmon, which are both protein options on the menu, but like I said previously, I wanted to try something different. The flavor was savory and juicy as it was paired up with salad and roasted potatoes. I wish I knew the duck was fried because I think I would’ve chosen the duck cassoulet instead, only because I prefer lighter options. However, I still finished the meal and was very satisfied with the portion size. I felt content afterwards, but definitely had room for dessert 🙂
- Creme Brulee: Whenever I see creme brulee on the dessert menu, my stomach starts smiling. I’m not sure if it’s the caramel calling my name, but I just love the contrast of burnt creme, custard base and caramel altogether in one cup. It’s like who wouldn’t order this?!?!
So ladies and gents (not sure if there are any gents reading this), but this was an amazing experience. Truly loved the food and the service and atmosphere was great. The waiters all had a french accent and I could listen to them talk forever. So would I come back?! You bet! Again, I’m no food or restaurant critic, but if I were to rank Dominique Bistro, it would definitely go my top 5 favorite places to eat. I have also been making more of an effort to go out with my blogger friends for either brunch or dinner and this is definitely a place I would recommend. I am also a huge breakfast gal, so I want to come back and try the brunch menu and perhaps write a follow up review shortly.
