Some people might be afraid of wearing skirts in the winter or showing some legs, but I am here to tell you that it is totally doable! The key is to layer up as much as possible. I have weird phases where I totally hate wearing jeans and there are other times where I love wearing them. I also love skirts and don’t like to give them up in the winter, so I wanted to show how you can style them even if it’s a little chilly outside.

I love layering skirts with turtle necks because it’s such a great way to stay cozy and warm. I also love when it fits my body perfectly because I love the snuggled feel and long sleeves. I will say that I am thankful that I was able to shoot this outfit in NYC because it is quite difficult to take photographs when it drops below 40 degrees, but today was an exception since it was actually sunny!

So in summary, I think there are three key rules to successfully wear skirts in the winter:

  1. Wear tights underneath or knee high boots to get the most coverage for your legs
  2. Layer up with oversized sweaters, turtle necks, cardigans, etc.
  3. Top it off with a coat that is close to the length of your skirt or even longer  (*Quick disclaimer: I actually wore a coat over this outfit but wanted to showcase the contrast between the bright red top an the navy skirt)

On another random note, I have been in one of those phases where I am constantly on Instagram and admiring a lot of blogger’s styles and trying to find new ones to follow. It’s great to see what people choose to wear and how they style certain items especially since we all live in different countries and experience different climates/weathers. So I am curious to know where do you find your fashion inspiration? Who is your favorite blogger? Would you consider wearing something similar to what I have? And what is your go to piece this winter?

I love this sweater and skirt idea!! I love how you’ve styled it and I definitely love wearing skirts during the winter! Tights are my best friend lol!

I couldn’t agree more! There are also different thickness of tights so it’s totally doable to wear skirts in the winter 🙂

I’ve been looking forward to reading this post all day! I really love the contrast of colors in your outfit, and the way you styled a skirt for winter. It’s definitely the same way I would do it – tights and a sweater, with a coat over top (but of course leave the coat open or wear a buttonless trench to show off the outfit beneath hehe). I constantly admire your style, but of course I have an endless list of bloggers I adore! Atsuna Matsui is my top inspo as far as clean aesthetic would go, Audrie Storme is my boo when it comes to boho, Cuppa Jyo is all the beachy goodness I need in my life, and then I’m constantly looking at Payton Sartain for a laid back Cali vibe. Ohhhh and of course I love Mimosas & Manhattan to get my fill of the city. Oh gosh, this list could go on forever!!

I love the mock turtleneck on you. Sometimes a full neck can make my face look a bit fuller, so I love this mock silhouette on you. Such a beautiful shade of red.

I prefer turtlenecks over crewnecks especially for the winter so I’ve been loving the coziness.

You definitely make me want to try and wear a skirt in the wintertime. It makes sense that if you layer on top and wear a coat and boots that covers most of your legs, you should still stay warm. I have found so many bloggers too that are inspiring and I love their styles. One of my go to is @lucyswhims. xoxo, Christine

I think you can totally rock skirts in the winter but I think you’re lucky that you live in LA and the weather doesn’t drop as much as NYC. Also, I just checked out Lucy’s page and can definitely see why you love her style!

I love this post so much because I’m all about the dresses and skirts all year round if possible. In the winter, I like to wear tights or leggings under my skirts to stay warmer, and then wear over the knee socks/boots! 🙂 xo, sharon

I’m certainly one of those persons babe!!! I always wear pants in the winter. I feel tights may look awkward on me but judging your pics I hope it looks this great like it looks on you. Thanks for sharing the ideas and recommendations.

It’s been getting pretty cold in LA lately so this post was definitely very helpful for me. I want to wear more skirt in the colder climate so I’m definitely learning how to layer properly to do so.

I think living in LA definitely has its perks since it doesn’t get as cold as it does in NYC so you can get away with wearing skirts/dresses!

It’s so easy to wear skirts here during the winter since it’s usually hot most of our winter. I definitely don’t mind wearing my legs out in the winter. I’m more than likely to get sick anyway haha. You look amazing in yours with those tights!

There are so many bloggers and IGers I found inspiration from, but yet I tend to twist my fashion my own way after having found the inspiration. 🙂 As for layering, heck yes. Recalling when I lived in NY it was actually colder than here in Sweden, so I’m not envying your winter at all, but with all that layering you totally can pull a skirt off! 🙂 Love the turtleneck too.

Love this look! The pop of red is so gorgeous. I have this skirt I bought a skirt from Zara during their winter sale, but I’m still too chicken to wear it in this blustery cold weather we’ve been having! Hats off to you to wearing your skirt so fabulously!

There are so many ways to layer, but my favourite street style way of doing so is actually with wide leg pants, jeans or leather pants. Most people go more classic with leggings but I like playing with fashion and experimenting. Unfortunately, LA is a bit warm for me to do it very much.

My favourite blogger would probably be Chriselle Lim in California & Lydia Elise Millen from UK. Chriselle is the queen of style and layers so well. She always nails it. Always. Lydia is a sponsored fitness blogger and fashion/beauty blogger. I love fitness and athleticism, so I relate well on both of those. She has great taste and style, too.
