I think we can all agree that blogging is a very saturated industry and although there are pros and cons to that observation, I want to focus this post on how to be more than just a blogger. Ever since I decided to work for myself, I have been struggling with what I wanted to do with my life. I quit my job to do blogging full-time but I realized my end goal isn’t to stay a “blogger” forever. As much as I love this career path and all the opportunities that I have, I want to do more and be more. I am very appreciative of my platform but I want to utilize my following to embark on other projects and I encourage you all to do the same.

I have always wanted to be a writer ever since I was young and maybe that’s why blogging came so naturally to me. I actually enjoy drafting blog posts because they were actually easy for me. I recently decided to bring my love for writing on my social media even though I focus primarily on fashion and lifestyle. I am just testing it out and seeing if it works because that’s one of my passions in life and I thought it would be a great opportunity to share it with the world. I have a main interest in poetry, specifically spoken word. I have a lot of content that I have only shared with a few people, but I decided to play around with this project which I am calling X.

I have other ideas in the works too but the reason why I am sharing this is because I want people to be more creative and dream bigger than just what Instagram allows. Don’t get me wrong, I love Instagram and think it’s an amazing platform to showcase your skills, but I don’t want people to feel limited through Instagram. Ask yourself what you are good at. Try to find something that nobody else is doing. These are the questions that I asked myself, which lead me to sharing my poetry. Sure there are people who write poems and share them online, but I don’t see a lifestyle blogger sharing their love for spoken word like I am.

Again, I am not sure what’s to come of this but I want to be more than a blogger and this is my first step in experimenting. Are there any projects or ideas that you want to put into action? Let me know!

Blogging is definitely my love, but I agree with also focusing on what you’re good at. I plan to open an online clothing boutique one day, but only after I become a full time blogger. Trying to do it step by step so I’m not overwhelmed all at once. Thanks for sharing these tips!

I think it’s awesome that you’re pursuing more than one thing that you love at once! You’re a total girlboss! I can’t wait to hear more about your poetry endeavors! OH! And I love this outfit so much. That blouse is stunning.

Yessss!! This has been me too. I did the same, quit my part time job at the end of last year, but after knocking off a few tasks on my to-do list that were lengthy, I came to feel like I have to be working on something else long term. At this stage I think I will apply what I have learned within this part of the industry and my background into digital marketing for other brands and companies, to help them grow and achieve bigger goals. But I am always saying how I wish I could write a book and live in Paris! We will see. Good luck with your project X. It sounds like a muscle that you should be flexing.

Wow I love that! I’ve always wanted to write a book ever since I was little too. Living in Paris also sounds like a great idea. I think we should always take risks and go out of our comfort zones so I’m glad you have long terms goals as well 🙂

I actually really appreciate it when a blogger includes quality text as well as quality photos. Ever since I renewed my blog, I actually take the time to draft the text as well.. I’ve always loved writing and reading so it makes sense. I’m not good at poetry though haha. You should definitely include yours 🙂

It’s great that you’re already motivated to keep working hard to find every passion of yours. The great thing nowadays is that technology keeps advancing that there will be jobs ahead that currently don’t even exist 🙂

I’m so glad you brought that up because being an influencer didn’t exist a few years ago. I’m excited but also a bit scared to see where technology takes us!

This is a great post! I have been asking myself so many of the same questions lately in regards to this, especially, what do I want to do in the future outside of blogging? Who knows what the future will bring.

I think looking for more is always important! When you reach one goal you strive for another. Perhaps you can pitch to online magazines and become a regular contributor to a few. Build a writing portfolio and then look for something more permanent. Or build your life as a freelance contributor!

Ok, this post was much needed right now that I’m sitting here working on blog related stuff when everyone else is out there celebrating Easter in one way or another and I’m jammed with work as I need to catch up on all things since I quit my day job to pursue this full time, knowing all along blogging won’t last forever and that this is just a platform to something else. I have a thing or two going on in my mind as well, but just like you I call them project X (in plural) for the time being as they are ideas that need to be developed and evolve. Thank you for taking me out of my superficial bubble for a while and making me think of what really counts in life, such as in your case poetry (which I am keen on hearing more about later!).

I’m glad this post was helpful for you! I actually want my platform to be more than an outfit diary. I want to be able to inspire others to do more because too often, we settle for the certain circumstances in our lives and I want people to know that’s not always the case. We have choices and decisions and it all comes down to our drive and goals.

Omg yasss!! One of the main reasons I started a blog was my own passion for writing. I’ve been working on and off again on a side project of a novel since one of my dream goals is publishing a book. It’s so great to always push boundaries while doing what you love!!

With love, Jenn

I’m so glad to hear that you’re working on your novel on the side. I think it’s very important to not invest all your eggs in one basket.

I think it’s awesome you are pursuing your passions and seeking the career path that is right for you. The message of this post resonated so much me. When I started blogging, I wasn’t really sure what direction I wanted to take the platform in, but the more I blogged the more I fell in love with the photography aspect of things. I hope to open up more opportunities for my product photography and art direction in the future. Wishing you all the best with your poetry and hope to be able to read some on your blog one day 🙂

Thank you so much for your support Jo. I am glad that you can resonate with my message and happy that you found your photography passion. I think it’s more than knowing what path you want to take, but also putting in work. I am still in the planning stages, but I hope to be in the action phase soon!

loved this post. I think it is so important to see beyond Instagram or the blog. I was telling a friend last week that this is such a volatile world that we bloggers need to have something on the side and develop other passions and evolve with time etc … I have a printshop that is like my baby and I’m working on shifting to a global market goods and it makes me so happy! I think you should share more of your passion for poetry with us!

Thanks Marcy. I realized you just have to stay true to who you are and never change just to be in the industry.
