The volatile spirit of fall can be your ideal excuse to spruce up your wardrobe and refresh your look with a few additions to make the transition easy-breezy, tasteful and timeless. If you’re already staring at your closet wondering how you can avoid the repeating conundrums of the not-here-nor-there months of the year, read on and get ready for your next shopping spree!
- Get cozy in a cardigan: The epitome of reading a book on a rainy afternoon in a bay window, a comfortable cardigan inspired by the Scandinavian winters can serve many a purpose, and you’ll likely widen your collection with more than a single choice. They come in many fashionable shapes, cuts and sizes, all designed to flatter your figure without costing you your priceless comfort levels. Oversized, with geometrical shapes, pockets, fitted or monochrome, their versatility will inspire many cocoa-infused evenings in your home.
- Floral for a spring in your fall strut: As you watch the cooler months slowly fasten their pace, you cling to your favorite bohemia-inspired floral dress, responsible for many slow dances, summer walks and beach lounging. Luckily for you, it’s an outfit to outlast the forecast changes, especially if you combine it with a simple cardigan over your shoulders. Slightly quaint, and very romantic, this combination is perfect for a crisp fall morning still imbued with the golden sunny rays, with that toasty summer residue that slowly fades away.
- Maxi dresses for the elven queen: You’ve worn them to the beach, to cocktail parties and your best friend’s birthday, and they possess that mystical beauty few garments can mimic. Popular maxi dresses from Australia stand both the test of time and the test of weather, especially when you pair them with fashionable ankle boots for an elevated evening look, or a leather jacket for your casual outings. They are as feminine as they are enchanting, so you can rest assured you’ll steal the spotlight and bring the room temperature a few degrees up wherever you wear them during the colder months.
- Reminisce about summer with off-shoulder tops: We’ve all seen the playful combinations from this year’s fashion shows where the center piece was the oh-so-stylish off-shoulder item adored by chicas in Spain, be it in long or short sleeves. In stripes, crisp white or pinup polka-dotted, the top of your choice can serve you as a transitional piece despite the naked shoulders. Summer inspired you to wear it with shorts and sandals, but fall requires slightly less skin-showing. Try skinny jeans or high-waisted pants and your comfy ankle boots with your off-shoulder top, and you have a seamless autumn combo.
- Go dreamy with your jackets: Since you’ll likely wear your autumn jacket every day, and few of us have a selection of five autumn jackets to choose from, make this one count as your purposeful, but authentic pièce de résistance! For instance, your long-sleeved masterpiece of a dress doesn’t have to be the only ethnic-infused, floral or denim wardrobe element you own. Bombers with sparkly florals, creamy coats and biker-boy denim jackets, capes, parkas, fur-embellished or leather, think of your fall jacket as your style character reference.
- Big legs, tight skirts:Â A pencil skirt is not reserved strictly for the business arena, although it does look devilishly hot and classy at the same time combined with a tucked in fitted shirt and a pair of sturdy heels. Such a powerful statement piece can be an incredible asset to your fall wardrobe, as it offers such versatility in creating a stunning ensemble for any occasion.
Whatever you do, make sure you still have plenty if wiggle room so that your step is steady and strong, but without compromising the lovely contours that pencil skirts ensure when worn perfectly fitted.

Love all of these fall pieces outlined here. Fall is my favorite season because of the fashion and while I live in SoCal where it doesn’t get too cold, I still like to purchase some fall pieces and wear them throughout the year. I love to layer cardigans and jackets during fall and winter, those my my typical statement pieces. And there is something so sexy and classy about a pencil skirt like you said. I am excited for fall now! xoxo, Christine

I am a huge fan of cardigans for the end of summer. I think they’re a cozy piece and it gets me excited for the fall!
I absolutely love fall florals, even though I don’t really wear them myself haha. You know it’s fall when you see the browns and burgundies wherever you go 🙂 This was a really nice guest post, great job!

There’s something about autumn tones and colors that I absolutely love!! It’s my favorite time of year and can’t wait to add fall pieces into my wardrobe soon 🙂
Samantha, you shared some great ideas for fall transition pieces! Fall is that season, in which where I’m from, we experience all throughout winter, since we don’t have cold winters. I definitely need to add some autumn jackets to my wardrobe!

I love autumn jackets! They’re my favorite type of outerwear because they’re light and can be worn for those chillier days.
I’m glad you’re still keeping the summer in mind while transitioning into the fall and there’s no reason to go all Alaska just because we’re supposedly having some colder temperatures (I am suppressing this fact as much as I can). As for the cardigans and florals, bring them on! 🙂

I actually just checked the weather for Sweden and it’s definitely fall weather. I am actually excited to bring some sweaters and cardigans for my trip 🙂
It’s always so funny when seasons change as I follow mainly US blogs and instagrammers! Cardigans, long dresses, and cute stockings have been my go to for the past few months so I’m excited to take out the sun dresses!

I am excited for cardigans because I love layering up as it gets chillier!
I still in Sumer mode and don’t want to transition but definitely a great post to read when I’m ready for Fall!! But the one thing I have to say about fall is that I get an excuse to wear all those Ralph Lauren coast and jackets I bought on sample sales lol!!

Fall coats are the best! I love getting deals during sample sales so I am excited to start shopping for coats soon 🙂
I honestly can’t wait for fall weather and having some fun with layering! These are all great transitional pieces to start shopping for. I’ll probably end up getting (another!) leather jacket, as if I don’t have enough already and some cozy cardis for sure.

Leather jackets are usually my go to for September and October. I feel like the window to wear them is so short so I definitely like to take advantage of it when I can.
