PARIS/ MILAN FASHION WEEK TRENDS

I didn’t attend Paris or Milan fashion week, but I love to follow my favorite bloggers who were fortunate to attend because I am always curious to see what trends these European designers come up with for the next season. Experiencing fashion week in a foreign country is definitely a goal I have, but until that happens, I find myself looking up the latest trends to hit the runway and here are the five top trends I’ve noticed:

  1.  80s Fashion: The statement trends from the 80s are back on the runway and I couldn’t be more excited! Eye-catching fashions have made this year’s fashion week unforgettable and I could only imagine what it would’ve been like to actually be in the audience. Bright colors and statement pieces graced Versace’s runway and velour jumpsuits and big sleeves are sure to be a hit for this season. Minimalism was major last season and now the “maximalist style” of the 80s will be the focus of many pieces from the Versace collection. Subtlety is absolutely disregarded and brash bold colors are taking its place and you guys know how I feel about color!
  2. Large Waist Belts: A staple of the 2000s, large waist belts were the accessory of the decade. Now, they are back in a huge way and it’s definitely a trend that I think is worth playing around with. Considering that belts give you shape, these belts will definitely help bring out an hourglass shape when you throw one on no matter what size you are. With large gold and silver embellishments, they make a huge statement on the runway and take every outfit to the next level. Whereas last season was about minimalistic jewelry and accessories, large accessories are perfect for creating focal points and accentuating your personal style. Versace, Emilio Pucci, and Alberta Ferretti all featured them in their fall 2018 shows, so if I were you, I would start adding large waist belts to your wardrobe now!

  3.  Patent Leather: Patent leather was huge last season and the trend has carried over into fall and I’m not mad about it. This is ideal for those that have fallen in love with the fabric as much as I have. Patent leather jackets, jumpsuits, shoes, pants and many other pieces were featured during Paris fashion week as it was seen in both Christian Dior’s and Balmain’s runway shows. I absolutely love this fabric, and it’s a great focus piece for street-style photoshoots. Because it contrasts so greatly with the floral, girly fabrics of spring, it is the perfect fabric to feature for fall and winter.

  4.  Sequins: Sequins were a huge trend both in Paris in Milan and who doesn’t love sequins? With power sequin suits from Paris and delicate fashions from Milan, they were popular with many designers such as Balmain and Redemption. Flashy trends made a big splash during this year’s fashion week, and sequins are no exception. Sparkly and glitter were a hit during the show, and such a gorgeous trend for the fall and winter months. Sequins are no longer exclusive to feminine dresses, as this year’s fashion week has remade them into empowering suits for women and I am most excited for this trend!
  5. Bustiers: Bustiers are such a classic lingerie piece that has turned into an iconic fashion item for many designers. During fashion week, they were styled with many different prints, patterns, and fabrics. Bustiers are so versatile and can be both grungy and feminine depending on how it is styled. This is a piece that is essential for any boss babe and was a powerful statement piece during Paris Fashion Week. Worn alone or on top of layers, it is a stunning piece that give shape back to an outfit and accentuates the bust and the waist. This is definitely one trend that I look forward to exploring!

What is your favorite trend from Paris and Milan Fashion Week? I normally dress as I please, but I love playing with upcoming trends here or then just to explore my creativity when it comes to fashion. Let me know if you like any of these trends and if there’s one that particularly calls your name!

Thanks for summarizing these fashion trends. I definitely love the 80’s as well and am all for big belts to accentuate the waist. I am not however into the bustier just because I am not well endowed in that area. =). Sequins during the day is a bit much for me, but I do love it for the evenings and for the holidays. I can’t wait to see what trends really end up making it big and which ones I will follow. xoxo, Christine

I can agree with your feedback on the trends! I think personally I would love to try the 80s look and big belts but I’m also not sure about the bustier trend. Can’t wait to keep following your fashion style!
