It’s been about a month and a half since I last wrote my #OWNYOURSASS series and I am happy to say that I am back with yet another badass group of women who have shed light on this topic. As many of you might know, I have started to include women that I look up to and admire to be part of my #OWNYOURSASS blog series. It’s an attempt to take back the word “sassy” and owning it instead of being shameful of it. I think we all have a bit of sass in us. I personally associate sass with confidence but I was curious to know what others have to say about this topic so here are the lovely five women that I approached and what their responses were.
- Brittany Grace (@notanotherblonde):
When I was about 20 years old, working my way through college, my boss got me a shirt that said “SASSY”. At the time I thought it was cute and cheeky but now I realize, yes, I am sassy in every sense of the word. Being sassy means you have strong opinions and you’re not afraid to voice them. It means chiming in on those pivotal conversations that have the ability to take you to that next level. It means approaching that cute guy (or girl) at the bar with confidence. It means standing up for what you believe in and working hard to achieve everything you set out to in life: personally, professionally, physically… Having sass encompasses all of that and then some. And if I knew where that shirt was today, I’d wear it proudly.”
- Lisa Rosado (@@wearewomenowned):
When I think about “Owning Your Sass” I think standing your ground, knowing your worth, owning your power & setting boundaries. It’s all about self-love & self-respect. Owning your sass gives other women permission to do the same!
- Rochelle Taguba (@rouxchelle):
To me sass means knowing who you are and not being afraid to embrace it. I think as you get older you just become more confident and comfortable with yourself. Having sass it saying you don’t need another person’s approval on what’s deemed ‘cool’, ‘interesting’, or ‘beautiful’. Like most girls growing up I always felt that I needed to be or look a certain way in order to fit in. Once I started honing in on my own interests and style, I realized what made me unique was that I didn’t fit into one mold. Owning my sass is living my life by my own rules.
- Yanyi (@miss_yanyi):
Sassy to me is honestly no giving a *:) about what anyone else thinks or has to say about who you are and literally just doing you and owning it. But, I also don’t think that means you have to be “Extra AF*” ; I think sassy gets a bad rep because people immediately think you have to be “Extra AF*” or “bitchy”, but sassy is really being open and confident in your expression of who you are and NOT APOLOGIZING FOR IT. I lived so much of my life hiding behind “who I was supposed to be” growing up, that I forgot how to be my real self, but HEY! we live and we learn and I’ve learned that you only get one life so you might as well make it count and embrace and brace yourself to take on the world as YOU… As I always say to myself “Live and let live”.
- Anya Talyzin (@lnestyle):
When I think of the word ‘SASS’ for me, it’s all about a bold outfit! Something outgoing, “all eyes on me” kinda of look. And I think it’s amazing to be able to dress sassy and feel comfortable at the same time. It’s amazing to wear anything if you feel it flatters your shape and makes you happy! Also ‘SASS’ for me means being STRONG! And I aim to be SASSY/STRONG not only in my outfits but in my presence and personality. That way, by owning strength, people can’t take advantage of my friendship and helping nature!
Again, I am blown away by all these women and their amazing responses to my series. I want to thank them for being part of the #OWNYOURSASS movement. Please check out their pages because they are always inspiring me to own my sass and to embrace my fearless energy. I am always looking for new people to add to my next blog post so if you want to be a part of it, please let me know!
