AUGUST 2020 GOALS

Isn’t it a bit wild to think that we are entering the five month of this pandemic?! When someone told me at the beginning of March that experts predicted this would still be an issue until the fall, I literally laughed out loud because I just thought to myself, ‘there’s no way that’s possible!’ But look at us now and I guess the joke’s on us! Given our circumstances, I think most of us have accepted that this is reality and I have always been the type to feel as though if there’s something that’s out of our control, then we shouldn’t allow it to dictate how it affects our lives, but we can focus on how we allow it to affect our lives.

I have to admit that reflecting back on the last month, July probably ranks top of the most difficult month of the year, tying it with March. I’ve dealt with loss, grief and anxiety and those were the main themes from the past 31 days and it’s insane to think how it all happened without me having any sense of it when I wrote my July goals. I actually was positive entering July, but I guess that’s what life is all about, it’s filled with surprises and sometimes it’s not always the good type.

My four main goals for July was to spend more time outdoors, do a weekend getaway with the girls, see more of my friends and go to the city more. I would say I probably successfully completed being outdoors more and seeing more of my friends. I didn’t go on a weekend getaway due to schedule conflicts and I have been finding myself staying and exploring my current borough Brooklyn more than Manhattan.

Now that I think of it, the pandemic has made my monthly goals setting more difficult because it’s not as easy to plan things since there’s so much uncertainty surrounding the future, even applying to how things will be a few weeks from today. With that being said, I am actually still optimistic about August because I do have scheduled events for next month that I’m actually excited about!

  • Enjoy my friend’s wedding and 2 day getaway: My college friend is getting married and I’m so excited for her wedding because it’s the one thing that seems normal for the summer! I know a lot of weddings were cancelled due to COVID, but since hers is in the tri-state area, it’s actually still happening. I love weddings and always have so it will be a fun event and I obviously will still try to be as safe as possible! I also have a planned two day getaway with one of my best friends in upstate New York that I am really looking forward to. It’s only a 2 hour drive from the city so it’s nothing too intense, but it’ll be great to have a change of scenery (also stay tuned for a future blog post about where I’m going and what my experience is like!).
  • Gear back up for season 4 of my podcast: I took a hiatus from my podcast The City Confessions, but I am bringing it back starting this week so please give it a listen 🙂 It’s been a year and a half since I started it and I can’t believe there’s already 65 episodes! I’m so happy I’ve stuck with it and I’m just as passionate about it as I was back when this idea was brewing in 2018.
  • Continue therapy: I started therapy just last week and I’ve always been an advocate for it, but I’ve never bit the bullet to actually go until now. It’s something I am doing for myself and I know that it’s a journey and a process so I am prioritizing it for August.
  • Pick up reading again: I usually try to carve out time to read daily and finish one book a month, but given the curve balls that life threw at my last month, reading was the last thing on my mind. I want to incorporate it back into my daily routine because I think it’s such a great way to exercise your mind and get your brain working in a positive way. If you guys have any book recommendations, do let me know below!

Overall, as I mentioned before, I am looking forward to August because I just have a good feeling about the next 31 days. When it comes down to it, it’s all about mindset. Once you adopt a mindset that is true to who you are and what you want for yourself, it then affects your thoughts, feelings, actions and ultimately reality. I would love to hear what you guys have planned for August!

I love your goals! I haven’t done my list of monthly goals for the past three months and I have the feeling that I need to get on that to have everything a bit more under control and pay more attention to what I have and want to do.
Have a lovely day!
xx

I can totally relate… some days have been more difficult than others. I like to work-out and meditate everyday to keep sane.

I love hearing that because working out and meditating has been helping me with my anxiety.
