CANCUN, MEXICO 2015

I went to Cancun for a week before Thanksgiving and I had an amazing vacation. The last time I was in a bikini, lying on the beach and sipping on a fruity drink was exactly two years ago in November 2013 (yes it’s been that long!). I just wanted to go over some of my highlights and recommendations because there wasn’t anything major that I disliked or could complain about.

  • Hotel: I stayed at the Krystal Grand Punta Cancun Hotel and it was absolutely beautiful! There was an infinity pool that I was obsessed with, a great view of the ocean since it was literally steps away from the beach, beds to lie on and amazing staff that catered to all my needs. I went with my friend, but this is a great place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. The views were absolutely splendid and it really looks just as it does online and I can honestly say the photos probably doesn’t even do this hotel justice!
  • Food: The food was great, especially if you like Mexican. There are many restaurants and bars on the main strip and I am sure you can find something that fits your taste buds. You also have the option of trying local foods, although I didn’t get the chance to do so. Surprisingly, the food at the hotel was also delicious. There are a few options to choose from including Mexican, Italian, and Asian. We went to a risotto restaurant for dinner and one of the chefs was singing opera! It was incredible and I felt like I was in a high class restaurant.
  • Price: Everything was pretty inexpensive to be honest. My typical meal ranged from $15-25 at most. Many of these places also includes tax and tips in their totals so you didn’t really have to worry about giving extra. I would recommend using a credit card that doesn’t charge currency or conversion rates because that is the best way to pay the price for what it is in Mexico.
  • Things to do: I love the beach and the sun, but I have a low tolerance for laying out and doing absolutely nothing. I usually bring a book to read or music to listen to while I try to ignore the fact that I am burning up in the sun. I did get a nice tan, which I am very happy about. However, my trip wouldn’t have been as great if I just stayed at the hotel. So, I definitely would recommend taking a day trip to Chichen Itza and visit the Mayan Ruins as well as Cenote. There are other day trips including to Tulum, and activities including zip lining, horseback riding, ATV, etc. Try to get out and explore what else is out there if you have the time. I enjoyed this trip mainly because I had a combination of relaxation/ tanning, with adventure and tourism.

Overall, this vacation was much needed and well deserved. I do hope you take a break and get away if you can. Your body and mind will benefit from it and you will come back super rejuvenated. I already have my travel urge kicking in and I am planning my next vacation for 2016 🙂
