FAREWELL 2020

2020 is coming to a close and it has been a whirlwind year to say the least! It has been a year full of surprises, grief, pain, anxiety and anger, but I have to also thank it for showing me a wide range of scenarios and allowing me to feel all those emotions. It was also a year that brought me clarity and a greater connection to my spirituality and those are things that I don’t regret.

As we depart ways, I just want to list some of the lessons I have learned in 2020:
Therapy works: This was the year that I finally got myself into therapy and I cannot rave enough about the tremendous personal growth I have witnessed throughout my sessions. I was able to unpack a lot of hidden trauma, emotions and burden that I didn’t even know existed or unconsciously blocked out. I have developed a greater sense of awareness and now that I have addressed my past and understand how it has affected certain aspects of my life in the present, I am better equipped to handle future predicaments and struggles moving forward. I think everybody can benefit from therapy and I encourage you all to try it if you haven’t already.
Setting Boundaries is Necessary: I have been a people pleaser all my life and I am finally learning to stand my ground and set boundaries in a healthy manner. It has been rough for me to be vocal about my needs, opinions and feelings because I have a tendency to put others before myself. Along with therapy, I have learned that dismissing my boundaries has often been the root of my problems. I have learned this year that setting boundaries is necessary and it’s not only a way to put yourself first, but to protect yourself.
↠ Slow down: I have been living my life in a go go go manner and never taking time to slow down. I always feel like I’m in a rush but if I think about it, there isn’t anything that is actually rushing me. It has just been my own internal engine. This year has taught me to slow down because everything that I am rushing towards can actually wait. I am learning to be more in the present and not dwelling on the past or planning too much in the future because the present is the gift.
↠ Trust the universe: My connection to my spirituality has been awoken and I feel like I have only entered into the lobby. There is so much for me to explore and dive deeper into but I can say my trust for the universe has never been greater. It has now become my personal motto and one lesson that 2020 has truly thrown at me.

As we wrap up the last week of 2020, here’s your reminder to:

cherish memories with your loved ones
laugh often and laugh more
practice self care and gratitude
be present and know that wherever you’re at right now is where you’re supposed to be
tell your friends and family how much you love them and why you love them

Farewell 2020 and let’s all welcome a beautiful new year! 2021, bring it on because your girl is ready for you!
