Since we are all quarantine at home, I’m sure a lot of us have been finding ourselves more in the kitchen, whether that’s cooking, baking or snacking. I have always loved to cook and prior to all of this, I would say I was making my food 85% of the time, so the concept of making my own food isn’t new to me. However, I will say what has changed for me personally, is my experimentation with different recipes, cuisines, spices and seasonings. I have also been actively trying to find new brands to try and my main requirements are that they should be healthy and delicious. Quarantine 15 may be a real thing, but I’m definitely trying to avoid that and still maintain a healthy diet.
After a month of going through different new products, I have come up with the below list of my favorite quarantine healthy snacks and foods. The best part is that I have something for each category including snacks, desserts, drinks and food.
FAVORITE HEALTHY QUARANTINE SNACKS/ FOOD
PANCAKES: Pancakes are a non-negotiable for me, especially on the weekends. I am a huge brunch girl and since I can’t enjoy brunch at my favorite restaurants, I decided to still maintain that routine and make my own pancakes. Unfortunately, a lot of pancake mixes in the market are high in carbs and sugar. I was extremely happy to discover High Key Snacks Keto Pancake and Waffle Mix. There are only 3 net carbs for each serving, which is still a shocking fact that I am blown away by! When you read the ingredients, they are all recognizable and the mix is also gluten and grain free. It also tastes exactly as how pancakes should taste, so you’re not sacrificing taste or texture for health. I have been obsessed with this mix and I limit myself to only having them once a week because if not, I know they’ll be gone in no time. HighKey also has tons of other food products that are low carbs and another snack that I love from them are their bars and vanilla granola . The bars have been great during this time especially if I am working from my computer. I also have been combining the bars in bite sized pieces and granola in my desserts and cereal and they have been magical!
BREAD: Who doesn’t love bread? I know, I sure do! I have to admit that I often strayed away from buying hamburger buns and hotdog buns and only ate them when I was dining outside. However, once I discovered Sola, my life has changed dramatically. I don’t know how I didn’t discover them before, but their bread is life changing! All of their bread are low carb, so you can feel less guilty eating them or just happier knowing you can have more than one slice! Their bread are all delivered fresh and even eating them a week after they have been frozen, it still taste delicious! I honestly don’t remember the last time I made my own proper hamburger and hotdog at home. Sola also has tons of other products and I’m actually a fan of everything from their granola to their nut bars. I also use their sweetener in my baking recipes!
DESSERT: Would you believe me if I told you I found a low carb, keto, gluten free, and sugar free spice cake mix that actually taste delicious? We’ll you can thank me later because this product from Kawaii Treats an Eats is a dessert lover’s dream. Each slice is only 1 net carbs, which again is mind blowing. You can use this mix for cupcakes or cake and it’s a great way to celebrate somebody’s birthday or just enjoy a guilt free dessert yourself! I personally don’t like overly sweet desserts so I was a huge fan of this cake because it’s moist and has the perfect amount of sweetness. I also feel like one serving satisfies my sweet tooth so I’m not overdoing it. I bake it accordingly to the instructions and depending on my mood, I eat it plain or I’ll add greek yogurt on top 🙂
SNACK: Instead of reaching for unhealthy snacks, I want you guys to consider these delicious plant based energy bites from Keetz, which are made from seeds, dates, and spirulina for extra antioxidants. There are no added sugars or preservatives and contain only 100% organic whole food ingredients. There are three variety flavors including maca, turmeric and spirulina. I tried all of them and I don’t have a favorite because they’re all delicious! I also love that one bite is truly the perfect serving size. I usually just need one or two max to tie me over for my next meal. These are not only great for quarantine but for traveling and on the go too!
DRINK: I love my coffee and although I miss getting my favorite lattes made by NYC baristas, I will say I am saving a lot of money by drinking it at home. However, instant coffee doesn’t do it for me, so when I stumbled across Clevr Blends, I thought, wow my latte prayers have been answered. What’s even more appealing about this company is that their ingredients are all plant-based, organic, and they source and package everything themselves. Their packaging is so cute and makes drinking their lattes that more enjoyable. I tried their Super Chai Latte and Coffee Super Latte and they are my new favorite latte drinks! I love that I can enjoy a latte with added health benefits as their blends include adaptogens, probiotics and superfoods. I’m telling you, if you love coffee, check them out because these are a game changer!
