Passion is something that I think is hard to describe, but we all know what it is when we feel like. Like happiness, it’s a concept that a lot of us want to strive for, which brings me to the question of: aren’t we all just maneuvering through life trying to find our purpose and our why? The journey of finding my purpose has been a consistent struggle for me, but day by day I am getting closer to finding what sparks joy for me. If you are on the same boat and feeling completely lost, here are 5 questions that can help you find your passion:
- What did you really love doing as a child? What did you seem to have a natural talent for?
- What are you willing to do for free because it brings you satisfaction and fulfillment?
- On a normal day, what are the things that you find yourself thinking about the most that makes you smile and often cause you to lose all sense of time?
- In what environment do you work the best? Alone or with others? In an office or remote?
- If you were asked to picture the ideal life, what would it look like? What would be all the different aspects and components?
When you jot down your answers, I promise you will see an overarching theme and that path is where you’re meant to be on. I sat down one day and basically wrote the answers to those questions down on a notebook. I didn’t have an instant light bulb moment of what that role, profession or path I was meant to be on, but I did notice certain elements that were common such as self expression, creativity, helping others and making a difference.
And while we are on the topic of passion, it’s important to not compare your life path with someone else’s. Some people find their calling at an earlier age or life stage and sometimes it takes longer for others. Some people will have one life purpose, whereas others might have several. I’m here to remind you that all of our journey is unique and special.
Truths About Finding Your Passion
- You need to experiment with lots of things.
- It takes time to discover your true passion in life.
- What interests you for now might not turn into a passion.
- However, you’ll find that you return to what you’re passionate about.
- It will take over your thinking when you’re still, calm or daydreaming.
- Investing in your passion will give meaning to your life.
I hope those realizations about passion will give you reassurance that you’re not alone if you have been struggling to find your purpose. It’s not always an easy discovery and just because you do discover it, it doesn’t mean that you will never start questioning your life’s mission. The reality of life is that it is forever changing, but the beauty of us being humans is that so are we.
