In a previous Instagram post, I asked what you guys wanted me to write about since I was a bit stuck on blogging topics. A common topic that came up was to talk about my journey as a blogger and I thought it was a great idea because there wasn’t that many blogging resources two years ago as there are now. I decided to highlight five tips that will take you far in the blogging world and hope these would be helpful to those starting out or to those who consider themselves an expert.

  1. Put effort into your photos: If you can afford to hire a photographer, I would highly recommend it. If you can’t, I would suggest to collaborate with one or two and stick with them as they will be able to curate the content you like best. It wasn’t that I didn’t care about my photos in the beginning, but I will say the quality of my content has drastically improved since I started which is a great way to also access my growth. At the end of the day, a photo speaks volumes and a consistent, beautiful feed is what will attract potential followers and brand collaborations. Make sure you are happy with what you post and don’t just post because you don’t have anything else. I have learned this multiple times and I am still working on being extremely busy with what makes it on my gram. It’s all about quality and less about quantity.
  2. Do your research: You have to be updated with the news that’s related to the industry that you are involved in. For me, it’s a mixture of fashion, beauty and lifestyle so I make sure I research the brands that I love to see what they’re up to. If there’s a new campaign, I want to hear about it so I can always be in the loop because you never know who you might meet at an event. With that being said, if you are invited to an event or meeting, definitely do research on who’s hosting it, what the brand is about, etc. It’s always impressive to know a little bit about a company or brand before their introductions or briefings at an event. This will definitely make you stand out, I promise!
  3. Build relationships: From the beginning, I always make it a priority to network and build relationships with bloggers and brands. I can’t stress this enough and it’s a tip that I think will make a huge difference in your blogging career. Try not to have any ulterior motives when you generate conversations with people. I genuinely want to get to know people one on one because I think it’s important to get to know them and I wind up always learning a thing or two from each person I meet. I am proud to say that this is one of my strengths and I continuously make an effort to build relationships with brands by emailing them about relevant news (see tip 2) and setting one on one coffee dates with bloggers. You have to remember that relationships is key and those relationships are what can make you and break you in life in general.
  4. Give people what they want: At the end of the day, you are nothing without your readers and followers. As a blogger, you have the job of giving interesting content, beautiful photos, etc. This is why I make it a monthly effort to always ask what you guys want to read or see. Sometimes it’s because I am in a rut and need some advice and other times, it’s because I am very intrigued by what you guys are interested in. Recently, I’ve realized a lot of people want to know more about the blogging industry which is what compelled me to write this post. Don’t get me wrong, I think you should always be true to who you are and your loyal followers are already following you for a reason but it doesn’t hurt to also ask what they want.
  5. Don’t take anything too personally: I’m not going to waste my time writing about how catty the blogging industry can be or some of my not so pleasant experiences with blogging but I’ve learned to not take things too personally. Just like any job or careers, it’s not all rainbows and flowers. You will have some realizations along the way, but just remember why you started and what you stand for. I believe ‘what you put out in the world is what you get back’ so I try to be nice to everybody and just let things happen naturally.

I hope these tips were helpful. Please let me know what else you’d like me to write about!

Ok number 1 and number 5. The quality of the photos is so so important. I have witnessed such a bigger traffic towards my blog ever since I started taking more professional photos. I ever have my husband or photographers I work with take them. They all know the essence of my brand / blog so I stick with them. Number 5 is such a sad fact. I have a hard time understanding how us women can be so unpleasant to each other.
Overall great tips. Loved the post!

My blog soared when I hired a photographer! It sure took a heavy load off my shoulders as well since I don’t have to edit photos. Outsourcing some things are definitely helpful. I would love to see more blog tips like these. It’s always nice to learn from others in the industry 🙂

These are really excellent reminders, girly! While the blogging community in my city is ridiculously small, I’ve worked to network in surrounding areas, and even other states because I never know where I might eventually end up! Plus, having relationships with brands all over allows for awesome travel opportunities in the future!

Ahh girl I totally agree 100% with all. Quality of photos and building relationships are definitely so important! And ignoring what others say is also a must. In this industry we need to pick and choose what we focus on, and haters shouldn’t be one! PS your hair looks amazing!!!

With love,

First off, LOVE your amazing hair! You always have gorgeous locks! I love these tips! It’s hard to always get consistent photos when you don’t have a great photographer. Such a challenge for me. Supporting other bloggers is all part of the beauty of being a blogger. I have gotten to meet some amazing women, and so many are very inspiring. 🙂

As I love networking I really love the part of getting to know fellow bloggers and brands and just as you I have a genuine interest in actually getting to know them, without any scheme in my mind of how useful this relationship could be. Some would call me naive, but I just love people. What’s also important is not taking anything too personally. I mean, we put ourselves out there in public and sometimes we get negative feedback from others, both people and brands, but we can learn from it and then just brush it off.
Thanks for making me motivated to keep doing what I do! 🙂
