We can all agreed that health is important but I’ve realized more than ever that if we don’t have our health, we truly don’t have anything. I’ve always been a “health freak” ever since I was in middle school, so it was easier for me to make better eating decisions growing up. However, I know this isn’t the case for a lot of people and it can be difficult especially if you don’t already have healthy habits. I’m here to show you that being and staying healthy can be quite easy with just five tips and strategies that you can use in your life.
The best part is that you can introduce these tips gradually over time and I promise that once you incorporate it into your routine, it won’t seem like a chore but rather part of your lifestyle. Some may seem simple and a no brainer, but I want you to actually ask yourself if you do this on a daily basis. If the answer is yes, then I’m totally sending you a high five through the screen. But if the answer is no, maybe or sometimes, then definitely make it a priority.
- Drink a gallon of water a day: Yes, we have heard this a million times but hydration is everything. I personally drink more than a gallon of water a day and I find it easy because I always reach for water whenever I’m thirsty. In order for you to make this a habit, wake up and drink a glass of water to start your day. If you are eating out, try to have a glass of water before your meal and always bring a water bottle if you’re on the go. Water also helps with getting in tuned with your eating habits because most of the time, we are actually thirsty and not hungry. If plain water isn’t your thing, add some lemon or fruits for some extra flavor.
- Incorporate superfoods into your diet: When I discovered flaxseeds about a year ago, I was adding it into everything including eggs, salads and oatmeals. I then became obsessed with chia seeds and started to have that with my smoothies and oatmeals. And just recently, I have been on a nutritional yeast phase and I absolutely love it! These little additions have great nutritional value and add more fiber to your meals so you can stay fuller longer. The best part is that most of them don’t really have a taste so it’s not a huge deal when you’re adding this to what you’re already eating. Definitely look into superfoods and slowly add them to your meals for an extra nutritional boost.
- Have lemon + Apple Cider Vinegar: There’s actually different variations to this because I know not a lot of people are a fan of apple cider vinegar. I wasn’t crazy about it in the beginning, but it’s an acquired taste that I’ve adopted. In the morning, I love having hot water with lemon and apple cider vinegar because it’s a great body detox and aids in digestion. You can also try lemon, ginger and tea or add some turmeric and almond milk. Try to experiment with what works best for you but I would recommend sticking with a few of those ingredients.
- Take Stairs/ Walk more: As a New Yorker, this isn’t really a problem for me, but for those who drive, I’m sure it is! We can all be extremely lazy and an easy way to combat that is making a cautious decision to overcome it. If you are driving, try to park a few blocks away from your destination, so you can get in those extra steps. If you take public transportation, always opt for stairs over elevators or escalators. This simple alternative will help you with exercise and it’s really the little changes that make the biggest difference.
- Have a balanced meal: I eat healthy for the most part but I don’t cut out carbs or desserts. I believe in having a well balanced diet so when you’re examining the foods you eat, make sure you have a good amount of fat, carb and protein in each meal. The more colors the better, but try not to have your plate be a majority of one food group. I am actually a huge fan of salads and I know that a lot of people think they’re boring but there’s actually so many ways to spice it up and make it delicious. It’s all about the ingredients so try to add other items that usually aren’t in your typical salad like fruits, granola, etc.
I hope you guys found this post helpful and can incorporate at least one or two of these tips into your routine. It’s all about creating healthy habits over time, which can eventually develop into your lifestyle naturally. Let me know what your other tips are in staying healthy!

I definitely agree! I think once you start adopting healthy habits, it becomes a natural part of your lifestyle because who wouldn’t want to feel good?
I’ve been working really hard to get more water in my body everyday as I really think that it helps me focus more and just feel overall healthier! To make drinking water more exciting I love adding fruit and other refreshing things into it (lemon, strawberries, mint, etc). So good! My bf and I always like to take the stairs when we can too but this was mostly when we lived in LA and walked places a lot more. Here in Palm Springs we definitely drive a lot more BUT we try to do a hike once a week to make up for it haha 🙂 Great tips babe! xo, sharon

I am glad that you are making more of an effort to hydrate your body. It’s really the little changes that have the biggest effect on your health. I also think it’s a little easier to be healthy in LA since I know a lot of people there are more health conscious and love to be active.
These health tips seem really easy to follow! I definitely drink a lot of water everyday, otherwise I’ll become super dehydrated. I really need to look into super foods though, they look easy to incorporate into meals!
You can think of superfoods like seasonings. Just add a little bit here and there while you’re cooking, so it’s not an extra step.
You made a great point that I haven’t actually thought of before. Back when I worked in corporate, I would sit at my desk and drink loads of water and I found myself not eating as much. I need to definitely go back to doing that because I snack way too much sometimes!

Girl, I’m a snacker too! It’s all about experimenting with what works for your body. When I was in a desk job, I felt like I snacked more only because my hours at work were much longer. Now that I work from home, I can actually make larger meals that satisfy me longer.
This is ever so important. People think staying fit or healthy is something hard and tedious, but it’s just about actually doing the things you do every day and changing the pattern of how to do them a bit. I always walk, walk, walk no matter what the distance and always take the stairs and that probably is why I can’t gain weight, haha.
Thanks for reminding us of the easy steps we can take to become more healthy!

I’m so glad you were able to see that being healthy isn’t difficult. Instead of seeing it as a chore, it’s all about changing certain aspects of your life and over time, those small changes have the biggest impact on your health. I love that you walk a lot too! That’s my main mode of transportation in the city 🙂
I read this post at a good time when I need a detox from the long weekend. I’ve been feeling bloated lately and need to do something about it. It’s hard for me to say no to good food bc I love eating and enjoy all types of food especially sweets. I try and add healthy options and superfoods when I can but need to try this nutritional yeast! I’ve heard lots of great things about it. Thanks for these tips and will remember them as I go grocery shopping tomorrow. xoxo, Christine

I think it’s extremely difficult especially during the summer because there are so many outdoor and social events that relate to food. I attend a lot of events and it’s also hard to pass up the appetizers but I try to plan accordingly so I won’t overeat. Definitely try nutritional yeast because I’ve been obsessed with it ever since I discovered it!
Yessss!!! Being healthy is pretty easy as its just eat right, drink water, and exercise. Drinking water is so good especially as it keeps you full as a lot of the time we’re not really hungry but dehydrated 🙂

I definitely agree Bernice! Most of the time, we mistaken dehydration for hunger so I always make sure I drink tons of water before my meals.
Such a greta post to read babe because while traveling I struggle to stay healthy when you actually don’t have a gym and you have to tried all the local food lol!!! I have done most of them but never tried the number 3 having lemon + Apple Cider Vinegar. For sure will try this and see how it goes.

Traveling is definitely an obstacle with my diet because I love to indulge especially since I’m on vacation. I try to still make healthy choices and of course having treats as well. I believe in balance 🙂
Great tips on living a healthy lifestyle! My great-aunt used to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar a day and she lived well into her late 80s. I never could get used to swallowing a whole tablespoon of apple cider vinegar but I do drink hot water with lemon every morning and it really does help me to start my day off better!
xo, Jo
If you mix it with lemon and hot water, you can barely taste the apple cider vinegar. You can always start small and then build up your tolerance.
