Generation Beauty

I had the privilege of working for NYX Cosmetics at generation beauty this year. For those of you who are not familiar with the event, it is sponsored by Ipsy, a company founded by Youtuber, Michelle Pham. Ipsy is a monthly makeup and beauty subscription box and you can find more by visiting their website here.  Many of the products that are featured in the monthly bags are the vendors that participated in the event. Each booth has their own set up whether it’s free make overs, social media contests, free giveaways, etc. It’s actually a pretty amazing event that brings everybody interested in beauty in the same room.

As an employee, I didn’t have the luxury of exploring all of the vendors and enjoy the freebies and social booth activation. However, I was able to witness all the interaction between the beauty enthusiasts and aspiring youtubers. It’s amazing how much social media has changed our lives because almost all of the booths promoted their social media accounts and had giveaways based on their unique brand hashtags. There were also quite a few people vlogging and you can tell that they had a Youtube channel of their own.

It made me realize that it is very possible to be “self made” in our generation as that’s how most of the guests and stars made their fame and success. Everybody is trying to be somebody in our social media obsessed world and I don’t knock anybody’s hustle when it comes to success. It was just fascinating to see people trying to connect with brands and passing our business cards but I guess that’s what these events are for. Yes, socializing and having fun is one aspect but the other is definitely also networking and getting your name out there. I think the best part of this event was that you can tell Ipsy encourages beauty creators to follow their dreams by giving tips on how to become successful and connecting them with brands and influencers.

Overall, it was a very cool experience and I was glad to be part of this event. If I wasn’t working, I definitely think I would’ve attended. You get the chance to meet new people and you get an amazing goodie bag at the end of the event and I’m all about free products if you know what I mean.
