HOME DNA SKIN CARE REVIEW

*The Home DNA Skin Care test was sent to me complimentary in exchange for a review. All of the opinions expressed are my own.

Skincare is very important to me because as I am getting older, I have realized that taking care of it now will definitely pay off in the future. I am a huge makeup lover, but I also strive for clear, smooth skin as I am sure most of us women do. When I heard about Home DNA Skin Care™ test, I was extremely intrigued because I wanted to see if the results could actually help me make better decisions towards my skincare purchases. I’ve also heard of DNA tests for diet and nutrition, but the thought of DNA affecting our skin has never crossed my mind.

The Home DNA Skin Care™ test, is a simple at home cheek swab that gives you in depth information regarding your skin. The results are broken down to seven categories including:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • sun protection
  • skin sensitivity
  • skin elasticity
  • pigmentation
  • collagen quality
  • skin antioxidants

The DNA test will give you a summary of the results and tailored information of the findings from each category. It also includes a certain score that tells you recommendations on what topical and supplement ingredients to look for in your skincare products as well as professional treatments. The test took less than 5 minutes and it was easy and simple since all I had to do was take four cheek swaps and send the kit to the lab.

Here is a snapshot of my results:

In summary, I have learned that my concerns include skin sensitivity, wrinkle formation and skin antioxidants. My results didn’t surprise me and actually confirmed what I’ve already known because through using certain products over the year, I’ve learned that I have sensitive skin, so I’m always cautious of the ingredients in the products. For the wrinkle component, I thought it was pretty inevitable since we all will eventually develop them as we age. However, I did think the recommendations were extremely helpful since I am now aware that I should look for topical ingredients such as peptides, Kombucha, Glycolic acid (mild), glucosamine and Hyaluronic Acid. These ingredients actually sound familiar as I’m sure I’ve seen then in some of my skincare products, but I never shopped purposefully with those in mind.

I’ve also noticed that the category I can improve most on is skin antioxidants since this is where I scored the most “non ideal” in. The visible and internal signs include pigmentation, dull lifeless skin blemishes and wrinkles which I can definitely agree with. A recommended treatment is antioxidant facial so I am going to keep this in mind the next time I got to a spa. This report also highlighted my strong areas including sun protection, pigmentation and collagen quality. I won’t go too much more with my results but nonetheless, I must say this was an extremely detailed report and I am so happy I decided to participate in this study. It was very informative and I feel great having this information in hand because I would like to use the recommendations for each category in my future skincare routine and purchases.

The HomeDNA ™ Skin Care kit retails for just $24.99 plus a separate $79 lab fee. It is sold at select CVS pharmacy locations and online at HomeDNA.Com.* I believe the price is affordable since I like to invest in my skincare, so I thought this was a great way to get to know your skin scientifically. So what are my final thoughts? I think the Home DNA Skin Care test was very informative and interesting and I am so glad that I took part in this opportunity. I plan on putting these results to the test by using the recommendations and testing whether the findings actually benefit my skin.

* Due to state regulations, this test is not available in New York and Maryland.
