Hotel Darby is located in Beach Lake, PA, steps from the Delaware River, just a short walk to vibrant Downtown Narrowsburg, NY and a quick scenic drive to Honesdale, PA. I was lucky enough that they were able to host me for two nights. Little did I know those 48 hours would completely reset me mentally and emotionally. The drive from New York City was smooth, scenic and quite peaceful. Maybe it’s because I didn’t hit traffic or maybe it’s because I desperately needed a change of scenery. Either way, I was glad that I was able to experience what Hotel Darby had to offer.
Hotel Darby has 27 guest rooms, a custom built bar & freestanding Malm fireplace, expansive grounds, hammock grove, fire pits & private walking trail system. I stayed in room 19, which was the king room in the west wing. The room was brightly decorated with warm accents. There were visible rattan textures, unexpected pops of color, and carefully selected retro artwork. It was definitely my type of vibe and aesthetic!
Hotel Darby is located right by the Delaware River, which is an area known for fly-fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Since I was only staying for two nights, my priority was to take it easy. We did, however take a stroll at Tusten Mountain Trail. It’s a moderate three mile hike with some rough spots and elevation gain with a few steep points. There are also other hike options including Russel Brook Falls and Irving Cliff. Some other river activities you can look into are Lou’s Tubes, Skinners Fall and Lander’s River Trip.
The hotel is also a short walk to vibrant Downtown Narrowsburg. It was interesting to be in both Pennsylvania and New York in one trip. There are shops and cafes in the town and it was fun to explore different local shops. You can also easily hit the road and follow the Delaware River north to Cochecton, Callicoon, and Milanville. *If you love antique shops like me, make sure you visit Maison Bergogne, A Pickers Find, The Old Sandhouse Antiques and Uniques and Hawley Antique Exchange.
I would like to also reiterate that staying at the hotel is a perfectly great alternative! Hotel Darby has grounds where you can simply hang out and enjoy nature. There is also a game room where you can play board games, pool, and darts. You can also enjoy bean bag toss, relax on hammocks and make smores. There is also a cafe/ bar, which offers easy, grab and go options like tinned fish, charcuterie, and other light bites. Think: quick snacks, reminiscent of the Lunchables you enjoyed as a child but all grown up.
Founded by Foster Supply Hospitality, A Single Bite is an interactive, volunteer-presented program that since COVID-19 has shifted their food-based mission from education to helping feed local families who are at risk for hunger. Since mid-March, over 50,000 meals have been prepared and delivered to families across Sullivan County.
Overall, I had a relaxing getaway at Hotel Darby and I would definitely return! As a city gal, I always say yes to opportunities where I can be closer to nature. It’s important for me to recharge and ground myself.Spending a few days by the river and unplugging was a great way for me to connect with my inner peace. I highly recommend adding Hotel Darby or any of Foster Supply Hospitality‘s properties on your list and I promise your soul will than you later!
