INTERN EXPERIENCE

*This is a post by Teresa La who interned for me this past year

I know that interning can be very intimidating and at times, you don’t really know how it’s going to help your career in the long run. However, I was lucky enough to intern for MARIANNYC and I learned so much about social media, blogging, and influencers. In the background, it looks as if being an influencer is the easiest job where you just get to have fun and go to events but in the span of this year, I’ve learned it is actually a lot of hard work.

I’ve realized that content has to be organized and scheduled and getting the right shot is incredibly important because that’s their job. Bloggers and influencers only want to post content that they are proud of and they will shoot in the dead of winter while carrying several outfits. The social media industry does not get enough credit and so many people only see it at the surface level.

I’ve learned that presenting yourself a certain way is important, and you should always dress to impress no matter what the occasion. In the span of the past few months, I’ve definitely revamped my style and took more care in my clothing as well as my attitude towards various contacts that I meet. I would give that advice to anyone in any industry because you are who you present yourself to be.

At this point, I’ve interned for over a year and I can safely say that it was such an amazing experience. I experienced so many things that I otherwise wouldn’t have while interning for Mariann. Working with brands was also a new experience and doing so created valuable relationships and contacts as you grow any platform. To add onto that, there is also something to be said about an industry where you can meet people from all over the world because of a shared interest and passion. It is for all those reasons and more that I’m so glad that I reached out and was able to have this opportunity.

I’m happy to say that I’m leaving with so much more than I came into this internship with, which is all you can ask of a job opportunity. Normally, I’d like to think things were meant to be and this is definitely one of those moments. I’m so glad to have made a friend and mentor this past year and while I’m leaving this my position as an intern, I’m really excited and nervous for what’s in store for me in the future.
