*This post was developed in collaboration with Plan B One-Step®. Personal opinions and thoughts within this post are my own.
Two years ago, I went through a rough breakup. I became distraught and full of sadness, confusion, anger and even bitterness. Beyond the feelings that often come with heartache, I felt extremely lost, and knew I needed to do some soul searching. So I decided to go on a solo trip to Sweden!. As a newly single woman, I was excited to embark on this new adventure. I like to consider myself well-traveled, but I never traveled completely alone, and that thought in itself is a bit scary. But you know what? I said yes!
If you know me, you know I’m type A and I find comfort in being prepared. I’m a huge planner, and after all, with a little preparation, I knew I could tackle anything. So I dedicated a week to figure out all the logistics in terms of accommodations, activities and eventually booked my tickets! To best prepare for my solo trip, I wanted to become 100% confident in my adventures. I made a rough itinerary of everything I was going to do and see. I looked up the most popular attractions in Stockholm and bought tickets in advance. I printed out maps not only of the city, but I also marked the number of stops on the metro, and where to get on and off. I brought two portable chargers with me, so my phone wouldn’t die, and I also made sure to have my address on hand so I could reference it if I ever got lost.
Despite the trip coming about in a completely unexpected way, I felt totally in control during my travels, and the experiences I had helped me re-find my confidence. When I got back from that trip, I wanted to bring this newfound feeling into every aspect of my life, from my relationships to my personal health.
When I was approached by Plan B One-Step® to partner with them on their “I’ve Got This” campaign, it all came full circle. The campaign is all about women feeling confident in their choices. It aims to empower women to use Plan B – an emergency contraceptive that helps prevent pregnancy before it begins – whenever they need it. It’s used within 72 hours after unprotected sex or birth control failure, and the sooner it is taken, the better it works.
As a huge advocate of female empowerment, I know confidence starts by knowing the facts and feeling prepared for the curveballs life tends to throw at us. Through this partnership, I’ve learned facts about Plan B that I hadn’t previously known, and I felt compelled to share the information with you all:
- Plan B works by delaying ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovary.
- It contains the same ingredient as many popular kinds of birth control pills, just a single, higher dose.
- It’s available right off the shelf at all major retailers when you need it – no prescription or ID required.
I have to admit, the breakup was NOT part of my plan. Trust me, I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, lost and maybe even alone, but my travels taught me that deep within all of us is an undeniable strength and confidence. When Plan A falls through, you have to simply say “I’ve Got This,” and move on to your Plan B. Visit PlanBOneStep.com for more info.

Thank you Vanessa! I definitely want people to feel confident in making health choices 🙂
Its funny you mention this as just this morning I was thinking about a similar breakup I went through about a decade ago. I was thinking about this time in my life as I found yesterday that a person I had been close friends with and who was a roommate for years had died and that she had been murdered. I was shocked. And even more so when I saw that she had been arrested 17 times over the last decade or so. I believe she had mental illness and undiagnosed schziphrenia. This was rough time in my life as I had to end my friendship with her as she had become so volatile and I had to break a lease as well as we had been roommates and then a few months later went through the breakup.
This was a rough time in my life which I look back with sadness and even more so now. I was working in customer support back then so no trips for me too expensive, that would have been nice. Glad you have this option. And that Plan B is still available. I can not believe what is going on in this country.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I really appreciate it and I hope you know you’re not alone as you mentioned, we all go through rough times. It’s all about picking yourself up and staying positive. I love that you see my story and its relationship with Plan B and why I support it!
I heard about this pill as one of the method of contraception. Sometimes unplanned things happen and it’s good to have a pill like this one at hand.
You look lovely btw! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed your travel despite the break up.

I appreciate your feedback! I wanted to clear some facts about Plan B.
Basically I find it fantastic that this tablet is available as you’ll never know if you need it. It’s important for me though to protect yourself in advance, not to risk any unintentional pregnancy.

The breakup happened two years ago so I’m totally fine now and definitely at a better place! And yes I support Plan B and the timing is perfect to spread awareness considering what’s happening politically.
Love that your trip gave you a major shot of confidence that you GOT THIS and how you’ve carried that into your daily life. Plan B is amazing for helping stop an unwanted pregnancy before it starts- the power to choose and be in control of our bodies is EVERYTHING.

Sorry to hear about the rough breakup babe! Life can be full of surprises and unfortunately they aren’t always good ones. I think it’s always good to have a plan B (and Plan B haha) to help us adapt to these surprises, whatever they may be. I’ve definitely made my health and well-being a #1 priority, and being in control of my body is a crucial part of that! thanks for sharing darling <3
