MAKE UP FOR EVER: ARTIST ROUGE COLLECTION

Influenster sent me three lipsticks to review from Make Up For Ever’s new Artist Rouge Collection. Just to be clear, this is my first time trying out lipstick products from Make Up For Ever’s line, but I did have high expectations because their HD foundation is my favorite foundation of all time. Upon receiving the box, I thought the colors would be dark because the box was red and black so I thought they were going for a more dramatic theme. However, when I opened the boxes, the color that surprised me the most was the lavender (C502). It is such a pretty color but my initial reaction was ‘I’m never going to wear this.’

I swatched all three shades on my arm and was impressed by the creaminess of the texture. It looked like a smooth and moisturizing finish. I was excited to actually try it on because I hate lipsticks that feel dry on my lips. Also for full disclosure, I decided to take the close up of the three shades with my iphone since it was hard to take it with my DSLR. The lighting in my room isn’t the best and I didn’t put it on as carefully as I would if I were going out with it, so there is a bit unevenness. Please forgive me, but I really wanted it to be natural and more of a first impression picture rather than a posed one.

My favorite color would have to be the muave pink (C211). It is the color that I have been wearing out recently, so the picture of that one is much brighter since I took it outdoors with natural lighting. The lavender is definitely unique and I don’t have anything like that. I think it would be appropriate to wear it for a photoshoot or a night out. The red one (C404) is obviously a classic, but the problem is that red lipstick is extremely difficult to put on. I’m not sure if it’s just me but it’s easy for it to smudge outside the liner of my lips so it takes a lot of time in putting it on. Don’t get me wrong, I love red lipstick! It’s a beautiful color and I definitely wear it a lot all year round, but it’s a pain to put it on.

Overall, the Artist Rouge collection did not disappoint. I decided to summarize my thoughts into three simple categories below. Let me know if you’ve tried Make Up For Ever’s lipsticks before and tell me what you think!
