NOURISH NEW YORK

This year is basically over and I’m not sure if you’re like me, but I probably have cooked and eaten at home more than I ever have in the past several years. I personally love cooking because not only do I enjoy the process of sourcing my ingredients and finding recipes, but I am very cautious of what I put in my meals. However, if I’m going to be honest, after cooking for so long and so much throughout 2020, sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy healthy, delicious meals delivered straight to your door. When I was introduced to Nourish New York,  a new vegan food delivery service that serves delicious meals made from wholesome, organic, and locally-sourced ingredients, I knew I wanted to try it and share my experience with all of you! *I also want to send a huge thank you to the team at Nourish and RVD Communications for sending me the complimentary meals in exchange for my honest review of the service.

ABOUT NOURISH NEW YORK

Originally founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012, Nourish launched in New York following the COVID-19 pandemic, when the team at the helm saw the opportunity to support the many New York communities in need, including local farmers, small and BIPOC-owned businesses, LGBTQIA+ organizations, and everyday folks just in need of accessible nourishment.

Through their rotating, seasonal vegan menus, ongoing commitments to composting, and using 100% recyclable and reusable materials, the team at Nourish wholeheartedly believe in community, quality, and sustainability. Here are some more key Nourish New York details:

  • The Nourish menus are updated weekly to account for diversity and seasonality
  • Nourish offers both A La Carte and Prix Fixe menu options, with easy filtering to account for allergies or personal preferences (key search categories include soy free, nut free, grain free, low carb, raw, kid friendly, and more!)
  • The Prix Fixe menu options include “The Breakfast & Lunch Plan,” “The Just Dinners Plan,” “The Just Lunches Plan,” “The Variety Plan,” and special holiday menus
  • Each Thursday, Nourish updates their weekly menus which remain open for orders until Wednesday at noon for delivery the following week. All deliveries are scheduled for Sunday between 10:30am – 4:00pm.
  • The Nourish delivery zone extends throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens with all zip codes viewable here.

As a native New Yorker, I was instantly drawn to Nourish considering that I prioritize supporting NYC based companies and I love their philosophy of being sustainable, ethical, plant based and of course, nourishing. For full disclosure, I don’t define my diet into any particular category but I do try to eat more plant based and I am a fan of vegan food. I also am allergic to certain nuts including cashews, pecans, walnuts and pistachios and Nourish made sure to do all safe swaps when necessary.

NOURISH DELIVERY AND PACKAGING

As stated above, Nourish delivers the meals on Sundays but you have to make sure you make your selections by that previous Wednesday at noon. I am lucky enough to have a doorman but Nourish also provides tracking so you can monitor it just in case you want to be there to receive it. The meals itself were all packaged nicely in an insulated bag, which was great to keep the several freezer friendly items cold and fresh. I was very excited to try all of the meals and I loved the variety because who doesn’t love options? I didn’t have a plan on how I would tackle my delicious meals but my method was pretty simple: I would eat whatever I was craving that night and so my experience with Nourish began.

MY  7 DAY DINNER PRE FIXE

I decided to try the 7 day dinner pre fixe because dinners are the meals that I find I spend the most time making. Even though breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, my dinners are usually more fulfilling. I also thought going for a pre fixe route would make it easier for me to not be so fixated with all the options Nourish has to offer on their a la carte menu.  I received the below items:

Seven Nights

NOURISH MEALS AND THOUGHTS

I loved that there were so many food options because I love having a variety of foods on my plate. I found that I often would add a little bit of something from different meals to customize my liking. I have to admit that there wasn’t one meal that I didn’t like but if I had to choose my top favorites, they would have to be the Cacciatore Cauliflower and Chickpeas and Avocado Ranch Dressing, the General Tso Sweet Potato Latkes, the pot pie raised tart and of course the Take n’ Bake Cookies!

As someone who is health conscious, I can’t rave enough about the Nourish meals and I think what sets this delivery service apart from others is definitely their high quality ingredients. Aside from the salads, which I would eat straight from the containers, all the other meals tasted fresh after I heated them up on my stove top or the oven. The flavors were rich and it was as if I had a chef cook those meals for me at the time that I ate them.

I was happy to also receive some desserts along with the meals because I admittedly have a sweet tooth, especially after dinners. I didn’t feel guilty having a cookie or two. After the first few days of having Nourish meals and feeling good about consuming them, I developed a trust for the company and I knew that they were putting only good ingredients in their foods. I can now understand why their company is called Nourish because that’s one word I would definitely describe the meals to be.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE

After having the 7 day pre fixe dinner meals, I felt healthier. I noticed that I was completely satisfied with the foods and didn’t feel like I was still hungry (which is something that I often experience when I eat plant based/ vegan meals). I could also tell that my body was loving the food and I always say that it’s important to check in with your body because it knows best. I’ve mentioned time and time again that it’s important to take notice of what’s in your foods because I truly believe in the saying ‘you are what you eat.’

Overall, I can’t rave enough of my positive experience with Nourish and I can see myself using this delivery service in the future especially when I am tired of cooking my own meals or when I simply don’t have the time to do so. If you are curious to experience Nourish yourself, then definitely check out their service as I believe you would all love it as much as I did!
