I am back with another #OWNYOURSASS post. If you guys have been following this series since I started it in the summer, then you are familiar with the reason of why I started it. Just to give you a quick overview, I wanted to change the meaning of “sass” to something positive. I personally associate that characteristic with confidence, but I didn’t always have that mindset. Feel free to read my previous blog posts here. Through my three previous features, I was able to get other badass women to give their two sense on what sass means to them and how they own it.

I am featuring another round of women and I love hearing what they have to say about this topic because there’s definitely a united theme that exists in all of our feedback.

Marilyn Hucek: (@the_lunar_phase):

I always had big dreams as a little girl. I believed I could do anything in the world, and I never took no for an answer. I remember a time when I played on my high school varsity softball team as a freshman. Our starting pitcher got injured and the coach put me in to start. I had never played pitcher, but I stepped-up to the plate. I didn’t play well, because it was my first time, but I remember the opposing coach on the sideline say, “she’s nothing more than just a pretty face“. These words really offended and impacted me. That is why I decided to major in Mathematics in College. I was interested in the degree, but I wasn’t the smarted kid in the class. I had to try really hard! In a major that is dominated by men, I decided I WANTED to be the black sheep and prove myself. I wasn’t going to let anyone stereotype the kind of person I am or let my appearance dictate my talents. My sassiness has made me strong and confident enough to fight for what I believe in and not give up on my dreams.

Sass to me is a synonym of self confidence and an ability to stand up for yourself. Don’t confuse it with being rude though. I think being sassy is also incredibly funny! I love being sarcastic with my friends and spice up conversations by adding a little bit of sass 😉 I also love to use some sass on my blog and Instagram captions, I feel like these types of punchy lines attract readers.

When Mariann asked how do I define my sassiness I discovered I am apparently
sassy. It is a great compliment however when I thought about it, it dawned on me that sassy sounds too casual in comparison to the heaviness of its meaning.
When I think of someone who owns his or her sassiness I think of a confident, bold individual. It is someone who knows what they want and has no problem making decisions. It is someone who would have no problem letting you know their dislikes but in a clever way. Most importantly owning your sassiness also means admitting your mistakes and learning from them.

Sassy is never rude but poised and opinionated, confident but not self centered,
ambitious but with morals and never threatened but someone else’s success.

I try to wake up every day ready for new adventures, ready to create new
opportunities. It is important to keep going and as one of my friends says ” Half the job is showing up”. Good things don’t happen while you are lying on your sofa. In today’s world it is important to keep moving, keep creating and improving. Find inspiration in others and do not let a bump in the road discourage you. Challenges are there to make us grow and to get us to the next level at work or in our relationships.

Surround yourself with people that motivate you and inspire you! Achievements are the greatest happiness!

I think being sassy is knowing exactly what you want and not being afraid to say or show it. But, the last time I checked men who know what they want and are not afraid to show it are looked at as confident!
I honestly don’t know where my sass came from because as far back as I can remember from when I was a child, my parents always said that I had a mouth on me, hahaha. As an adult and a New Yorker, I had to work on the delivery of my sass because I’m usually very unfiltered and I would say the first thing that comes to my mind! I think intentions are key and as long as your intentions are good #ownyoursass
I am so happy that these ladies were able to contribute to my #OWNYOURSASS movement. It’s amazing to see how many people can relate and I think it shows why I vibe with these women and why I love surrounding myself with confident and badass people. They say you are who you surround yourself with and I’m happy to find people that support me and also have the same insight on what sassiness mean to me.
