We’re back again with a part II to my #OWNYOURSASS movement. I think I will do a biweekly blog post on this matter and continue to bring powerful and confident women to contribute to this topic. If you haven’t already read my introduction for this topic, you can check it out here.

Over the last few years with blogging, I have come to find my voice in this industry. It doesn’t satisfy me to just write about fashion/beauty trends, details to my outfit, etc. I used to do write about topics like that and I still do every now and then, but I would like to use my platform to motivate women to succeed in life rather than just give fashion advice. I was very pleased with how the public has reacted to my blog post and Instagram post regarding #OWNYOURSASS. This is why I want to bring more exposure to why this is so important to me and have more women contribute.

As I did the first time around, I approached four additional women who I believe are fearless and powerful in what they do and who they are.

  In the past the term “sassy” was meant in a more negative way than it is viewed now.  With so many girl bosses kicking butt these days, sassy comes with the territory.  Sassy to me is being bold, fresh, and confident.  It is about knowing what you want, working for it and attaining it – all with a little attitude and wittiness.  Everyone has an opinion and a voice and they should use it.  But sassiness doesn’t warrant being impolite or disparaging, it just means having the confidence to speak up and be passionate about your beliefs.

I think sass is something everyone has at one point or another. It could stand for several things including being rude, or over-confident. But it could also be a way of communication with close friends. The way language comes across to people is different in every person. Everything is about perspective and your relationship with a person. What one views as arrogant, one could view as the normal.

  “Sass” has always had a negative connotation, roughly translating to having an attitude or being rude or “fresh”. Usually when someone says you’re sassy, it’s not a good thing – but hey, the community has taken Feminism to being something negative too. The #OWNYOURSASS movement is not only something to help spread awareness of what “sass” is, but it’s also a driving message to literally own your sass. Sass is confidence, it’s personality, and it’s drive. Especially in the city of NY, you just have to be sassy. Otherwise, you get stepped on and that is NOT okay. Instead of trying to blend into social norms and conform, STAND OUT! Speak your mind and fight for what you believe in, no matter who you are. Be sassy and be proud. Never let anyone tell you that you’re anything less than you believe you are. Go out there and own it.

  A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.” Eleanor Rosevelt. Strong, confident women who speak their minds – go getters that are determined to succeed are often put down. Humility is valued to a point where we put confidence on the other side of the coin. But it really shouldn’t be. Be confident, be sassy. Be humble.
