SETTING GOALS

Setting goals is important to succeed in life. We all know there are short term goals and long term goals and I’m sure we all have them in our heads. It’s easy, however to just have these goals in mind and not put them into action. Instead of creating a list of what I want to accomplish in 6 months or in 5 years, I decided to keep it more simple. I’ve listed three personal goals that I want to achieve within the next three months. I can try and conquer one per month, or three in the first month, but either way I thought this would be a reasonable deadline. This is somewhat like new year’s resolutions except I feel like I can actually stick to them because I’m not looking at it as 2017 aspirations, but rather just the next ‘to do’ item on my list.

  1. Open a Roth IRA: I know you guys are probably thinking, Mariann, is this a finance blog or a fashion/ lifestyle blog? I am no financial adviser, but it has always been a goal of mine to open a Roth IRA because I want to be financially smart about my money. I am proud to say I have no debt and I have good credit. I want to maintain this as I am getting older and I am holding myself accountable for listing this as a goal because I have been putting it off until “the time is right.” At the end of the day, your girl’s gotta look after her money and make sure she got some funds just in case of an emergency.
  2. Clean Out Closet: No, I mean really really clean out my closet. I have a ton of things I have been saving for years, even things with tags! I have been doing pretty well as the season changes because I often sell or donate most of the clothing I don’t like or wear. However, there are still items that I have been saving and keeping for the hell of it and it’s really time for me to say bye to those babies. This goal isn’t the typical spring cleaning, but rather discarding all of what I think are valuables even though I haven’t touched or worn them in years.
  3. Yoga: I love yoga and I have done it before, but I really want to incorporate back into my daily routine. My goal isn’t to take one yoga class or 30 yoga classes. I don’t really have a limit, but I want to find my love for it again and add it naturally back into my life.

As you can see, these goals are attainable. They are also pretty random, but they have been in the back of my mind for quite some time now. I have other generic goals such as traveling, but I know those will happen and those don’t need to have as much discipline as these simple ones. I encourage you to think of three goals you want to accomplish within three months. The smaller they are, the better! Let me know what you come up with!
