Whenever I am stressed or feel the need to getaway, but realistically can’t go anywhere too far, I always opt for staycations. Not only does it satisfy my desire for a change of environment, but it’s a great way to unplug temporarily. I personally love my own space and I love sleeping in my own bed, but you also can’t beat the comfort that a hotel usually offers. I moved to Williamsburg (one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn) about a month ago and even though I wanted to getaway, I also knew I wanted to stay in my borough.
I want to give a huge thank you to The Williamsburg Hotel for being so kind to host me for one night! I have been to the hotel several times for events and have stayed overnight several years ago. Although I was there for less than 24 hours, it was still a great experience for me to temporarily escape. I didn’t feel anxious or stressed when I was packing since the hotel is literally only 15 minutes away from me. It’s like staying at a friend’s house, but not feeling bad about taking too much space.
The Williamsburg Hotel’s motto is ‘sleep with a local’ which I thought was very fitting for me as I am technically considered a local. I was able to finish my urgent work in the day and checked in at 4 pm. During that time, I simply hung out in the hotel room and visited the rooftop pool, which is one of the highlights of the hotel. It was very relaxing and the view of NYC skyline immediately took my stress away and allowed me to sink into a sense of gratitude. Sometimes we are so focused on our problems at hand that we forget to breathe, take a step back and to look at what’s in front of us and to look at our life from a further lens.
More than a pool, this space is unique to the Williamsburg neighborhood and a sort after hangout spot for locals. With dramatic city views, locally curated music series and bespoke craft cocktail menu – this is a great space to meet and mingle. Open daily for hotel guests 9am-6pm & 7pm-late for dining.
The Williamsburg Hotel has a stunning restaurant and bar in the lobby. Since I knew I would be having breakfast there in the morning, I decided to go out to Fushimi for dinner since I was craving sushi. (If you are also visiting Williamsburg, I highly recommend trying this restaurant because the food is great, the prices are fair and the ambiance is like no other!). When I returned to the hotel, I was exhausted and was actually surprised by how tired I was. It made me realize that I very much did need a quick pause in my week since my body was stressed and overworked.
Needless to say, I had an amazing sleep and I will also admit that I probably had a better night’s sleep at The Williamsburg Hotel than I did in my own bed. It was also nice to do some work by the natural lighting from the terrace and a great way to get some fresh air and take in the Brooklyn beauty. I had a slow morning and packed all my belongings before heading downstairs for breakfast at The Williamsburg Restaurant. I ordered the herb omelette and my friend ordered the avocado toast. Both were delicious and filling.
Who knew that a 20 hour staycation would do your soul some good! I came back to my apartment with a lightness in me and I was ready to conquer the day. I know a lot of people might not think about staycations when they want to getaway, but I think it serves a purpose, especially for those who may not be able to take off work or have too much responsibilities at home. I look forward to returning soon and I’m already planning my next staycation. I find that visiting and staying at different hotels in New York gives a refreshing outlook to what my city has to offer!
