As this year unwinds, I love to look back and look at how 2017 has treated me. I think every year serves a purpose and as I have mentioned in my previous posts leading up to this last one, 2017 has been a monumental year for me. It was the year where I experienced the most changes and it was an eye opening and important year that has shaped the foundation for my adulthood. Here are the top ten lessons I’ve learned in 2017:
- You have control over your own happiness.
- Don’t rely on anybody for validation.
- Don’t take things too personally.
- It’s not always about you.
- You have one body so be kind to it.
- Perspective is key.
- Always make a priority for self care and self love.
- Accept the things you cannot control.
- Be cautious of the people you surround yourself with.
- Take care of yourself because nobody else will.
I think you can get a good idea of where my mindset is after reading those lessons because most of them revolve around my self-worth and independence. I try not to have any regrets when it comes to the decisions I’ve made because I treat each experience as a learning opportunity. I am excited to take these lessons with me to 2018 and know that there are bigger and better things that await me. Most people tend to make new year’s resolutions and although I have nothing against that, I try to reflect on the lessons I’ve learned in the past year and create goals for myself for the new year. I find this process to be helpful because it allows me to take a step back and see how far I’ve come and where I want to be in the future. Hope you all have a happy new year and let me know what was your biggest lesson in 2017!

Thanks Rubi and Happy New Year!
We truly are so alike Mariann. This post hit me as I need to improve on each and every point. I’m good at telling other people to do so, but always forget myself in the process, leaving me working too much and having no time for myself or pondering about some issues too much which make me depressed, which shouldn’t happen. I’m so glad you’ve learned these things and I’m so glad you remind me of these important points in life as well!
Have a very Happy New Year!
Love,
Thomas

Thank you love! So glad you enjoy these lessons.
Im finally getting around to reading this! It’s been on my radar. This is awesome, and i’m stoked to see what comes to pass for you in 2018. Im 100% on board with your list! If I could add to that list, I would say that working smarter on top of working harder. I know for me, I work hard. I will always work hard. But as I grow my business, and bandwidth becomes more of an issue, working smarter is something I need to focus on. Immigrant asian parents instilled the work hard ethic, but eventually we all get burnout!
Great post girl. Get it!

That’s such a great lesson because I’ve also learned the importance of working smarter. It’s not always about the amount of hours you put in a day, but rather how efficient and effective you’re working!
1, 5 and 6 are so true. Lovely lessons dear 🙂
