Imagine staying at a hotel that not only exceeds attention to detail in every design element, but also resembles a museum. That’s exactly how I would summarize my one night stay at The Maker Hotel. Founded by the co-founders of global beauty sensation Fresh, Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg, and hospitality expert Damien Janowicz, the Maker Hotel is a stunning historic hotel inspired by creatives.
The 14,000 square-foot property comprises three buildings: an 1800’s Carriage House, a Georgian mansion and a Greek Revival building. The space is dimly lit by vintage Art Deco lamps and glistening chandeliers that gives off a romantic vibe. The team preserved original architectural elements throughout the property. 70% of the property’s decor is vintage and the property features the work from local Hudson Valley craftsmen. It’s admirable to see how much the hotel values makers and creatives. I also loved the consistent theme throughout the hotel and they excel in making it a complete brand that know its vision.
What’s even more special is that The Maker also offers custom-designed pieces for purchase. You can shop their pieces on their website including the interiors, tabletops and gifts. As a result, if you fall in love with something from the hotel, you can inquire about it. As you can see, the hotel is encompassing of everything from lifestyle to art to interior design.
Located in Hudson, NY, the “property is an intimate sanctuary, comprised of 11 spacious rooms spread across three historic buildings.” Every room is completely unique and has a story to tell. The four maker studios include the Architect, the Artist, the Writer and the Gardener. The remaining rooms include the terrace lofts, the corner studio, the apartment, and the bedrooms. *I highly recommend checking out the descriptions and the photos from The Maker’s website to see the different design elements.
I was luck enough to stay at The Artist:
The inspiration behind the Artist Studio is the integration of a work and living space, where the place of creation and residence is interlaced for the ultimate bohemian refuge. A mélange of time periods, with sensual brushstrokes of rich colors and patterns paired with extensive artwork.
Now, I by no means, would label myself an artist. However, it was interesting to see how the hotel interpreted and define the ambiance of an artist. It was clear from the vintage paintings on the wall that this was an artist’s world. Everything in the room felt like carefully curated art. The fireplace and a plaster sculpture by Frederick Weinberg were also unique elements to the room. Personally, I am also a bathroom type of a gal, so I was in love with the sink design and the gold accents. I was in awe from the moment I stepped foot into my room to the moment I left. Hence, I can confidently say that I have never stayed in a hotel that was designed so well.
The Maker Hotel has a cafe and a restaurant, which are not surprisingly, also beautifully designed. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch, with a great variety of pastries, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant is a glass conservatory, surrounded by greenery. I loved the glass ceiling, which added a unique element to the dining experience. And the menu offers contemporary American fare.
There is also a hidden lounge that actually used to be a carriage house. Upon entering, you will easily be transported to an intimate bar with candle lit corners. This is the perfect place to have a drink before or after dinner. And if that’s not enough, the Maker Hotel also has a juice bar, so there’s something for every type of traveler.
For those visiting The Maker Hotel might think it’s just a hotel, but it’s actually so much more. The hotel also has their own fragrance line and fragrance plays a huge role in their story.
Our fragrances are inspired by travel fantasies we’ve lived or long for at The Maker Hotel, where inhibitions melt away. Layers of rich, sultry notes capture our bohemian sensibility for undeniably sensual scents. Clean and responsibly made. Gender inclusive.”
There is also a fragrance library at the hotel, where guests can sample the discovery set and find which scent they gravitate towards the most. I love Paradiso which has notes of Mangosteen, Plumeria, Patchouli Leaves, perfect for the end of summer. My other favorite is Libertine, which has notes of Pomelo, Hibiscus, Virginia Cedarwood, which I think is perfect for the transition from summer to fall.
As a city gal, I love to getaway and explore a quieter atmosphere from time to time. The Maker is the perfect option for those wanting to escape the city. It is only a 2 hour drive from the city and I am confident that you’ll enjoy your stay as much as I did. The Maker Hotel isn’t just an ordinary hotel. Whether you consider yourself a creative or not, I know you will be mesmerized by the design and art surrounding the hotel. It’s truly remarkable and one that ranks high on my list. I can’t wait to return and explore the other rooms!
