I love a good escape and given the circumstances of our world right now, I have been meaning to explore more of upstate New York. When I look back at my travel history, it is evident that I’m more of an international type of traveler but this pandemic has made me look into mini getaways and road trips instead.
I know that traveling isn’t ideal during this time but I do believe that you can safely explore places that practice social distancing and abide by governments policies when it comes to safety. I stumbled across The Woodhouse Lodge on Instagram and I was instantly drawn to their country retreat vibes and knew that it would make the perfect mini getaway from the city.
Located in Greenville, this 10-room Lodge in the heart of the Catskills is only a 3 hour drive from New York City.
Built in 1962 as a modern escape for city dwellers, the property has been updated into a 10 room shaker meets mid-century modern hotel tucked in the rolling hills of the Catskill Mountains.”
Situated on 4 acres of tree lined lawn, this hotel is a perfect example of how you can safely social distance and enjoy open air and be surrounded by nature. The best part about Woodhouse Lodge is their Covid safety measures and protocols. Most of the communication between guests and the staff is through text messaging. Upon arrival, guests can check in contactless by simply going to their assigned rooms, which minimizes contact with the staff as well as other guests. Masks are also required at all times and since this lodge only contains 10 rooms, there is not a lot of daily traffic.
Aside from the cozy vintage decor in the bedroom, I was instantly mesmerized by the overall lodge’s charm. In the middle of the lawn, there are fire pits, which are lit every evening (weather permitting). It is surrounded by wood for the fire and as well as comfortable sofas and beautiful lights to set a cozy vibe. It is also the perfect way to watch the sunset and then enjoy the evening with your partner, friend or even alone!
Woodhouse lodge offers s’mores making during the evening and that was a highlight of my trip! I absolutely enjoyed the whole process from making the fire to roasting the marshmallow to assembling the s’mores and to of course eating it afterwards! I would also like to highlight their hammocks on the lawns because I’m a huge hammock lover! Since it’s so rare to see them in the city, I always get excited to lay on one during vacations. It’s difficult to not enjoy yourself and feel at peace when you’re quiet and in touch with nature.
The lodge also has a tavern that offers food for dine in, take out and even room service. I personally didn’t try their food but I did have their wine and it’s a great way to relax and enjoy the quietness away from the city. There are also several dining options nearby, which are a short drive from the hotel, with even some options that are walking distance.
Before I went on this getaway, my goal was to relax and unwind. I didn’t want to bombard myself with too much to do because the lodge was the main attraction. Some of the activities I did was visit the falls at the Huyck Preserve, shop at antique shops and simply drive around and enjoy the scenery. Everybody was so friendly and I was completely satisfied with my stay and overall experience. I spent two days at Glenville and I would highly recommend visiting if you are itching for a getaway, especially from the New York City!
I can also promise you that your stay and experience at The Woodhouse Lodge would be an unforgettable one. It was everything I needed and was looking for in terms of an easy escape from the city. I can’t wait to return and I think it would be an even better experience during the fall since it’ll be chillier and I can fully embrace the autumn vibes.
