TIPS ON MAKING YOUR HOME SACRED

Now that I have been in my apartment for more than three months, I finally feel comfortable, situated and can confidently call this place home. If you guys haven’t been up to date with my latest posts, I have written an article on how to organize the kitchen and pantry as well as a look into my room decor featuring Rooted plants.

Today I wanted to give you tips on how to make your home welcoming, inviting and zen. I think whatever your personal decor style is, you should still aim to make your home a sacred place and these are some tips on how to do just that:

  • Get some candles: I’m pretty sure everybody is a fan of candles since there is a wide range of scents. Candles are a great way to set, change and elevate a mood and setting. I like to change my candles with the seasons as I would for my perfumes and fragrances. Since we are in the fall right now, I am burning Homesick’s Pumpkin Patch and it smells divine! Once October is over, I will start to change to more winter scents which means I’ll look for candles with notes of cinnamon, vanilla and more towards the woodsy spectrum.
  • Sage your home: I am a huge advocate for sage! If you are moving into a new apartment like I just did, sage is a great way to bless your new place and welcome positive vibes and energy. I also like to sage my apartment whenever I feel like I need to remove any bad juju. The smell might be strong to some but if you open up your windows and air it out, then you should be fine.
  • Buy some incense/ diffuser: Similar to candles, I like to have incense and diffusers throughout my home to not only make it smell good but to also promote peace and harmony. I love entering my bedroom because it currently smells like vanilla. For the living room, we have a cinnamon scent and the bathroom has X. I just love that each room has a different vibe but you can keep the scents the same throughout if you’d like as well.
  • Cozy with blankets and pillows: My bedroom and living room is filled with pillows, blankets and throws and I don’t think you can have too much of them! It is also very appropriate for the fall and winter because who doesn’t like to snuggle up in a bed or couch filled with comfortable and soft throws and pillows? Feel free to mix and match different sizes, colors and styles to give your place more personality!
  • Include key decor: Whether you are going for a minimalistic vibe or a more bold and modern atmosphere, I think some key decor would help to make your place zen and sacred. I personally love plants and frames and these are pretty common in any household. I think by adding a simple decor in an empty space can make it more homey. Some of my prints and frames have words and photos that are serene and calm. We are all different so find what works for your home!

Overall, I focused on these tips to make my apartment the way it is now. It’s never going to feel finished and always will be a work in progress but I’m happy with the vibe that it has now. It’s important to take time to make your home sacred because the setting directly affects your mood and mind and your mental headspace affects everything else!
