USING INSTAGRAM LESS FREQUENTLY

*Outfit Details: Jacket (Malik Rajani) | Bag (Ellia Wang) | Dress (Aeidaine) | Sneakers (Koio) | Sunglasses (Yohji Yamamoto

Out of all the apps that I use, I can say without hesitation that I use Instagram the most. It’s the platform that I have my largest following and to be honest, I love using it not only for sharing my content, but also connecting with others. It’s funny how life works because just a month ago, I was finding myself in a slump without much work or motivation since the holidays were hectic and slow and now I have found myself stressed with everything that’s been going on.

Just to give you all some background, I have a few campaigns that I am working with. I am very excited for the work, but the timing is pretty tight since I also have my birthday coming up next weekend and my Milan trip the week after. I am also in my best friend’s wedding and her bachelorette is taking place in mid February. As you all know, NYFW is also right around the corner, so everything for me right now is happening back to back. I have also been filming videos for my Youtube channel and that has taken a big chunk of my time. I don’t handle stress very well and I am working with time management and organization, but I have the personality type that wants to get everything done right away (let me know if you can relate!)

This post is by no means me complaining because I actually thrive off stress. I love being busy because it keeps me sane. With everything that’s been going on, I have found myself using Instagram less frequently. For those who keep up with me know that I often post once a day. For the past two weeks, I have posted less, and have even skipped posting 2-3 days, which I NEVER do. However, what I’ve learned is that I have been less stressed because I don’t find myself catching up with others for hours and finding myself consumed with engaging with all the posts, watching everybody’s stories, etc. I sometimes do feel like I’m missing out especially since I don’t see all my friends’ new posts, but with Instagram’s algorithm, I barely see them anyways.

I have learned that it’s okay to not post everyday. The time that I take away from using Instagram has been time given back to me for other priorities in my life for my professional career and personal life. I still make it a priority to dedicate time to engaging with my followers and still post to remind people that I’m still alive, but I am trying to be more strategic with my time. I will also be traveling next week, which is a great way to detox from social media and be present. Do you guys ever take social media breaks? How do you juggle with being active on Instagram, while also running your blog, working your day job, etc?

  • I love your jacket! I've been less into Instagram lately, you're right that it does take up a lot of time. I didn't get to shoot much in December/early Jan so I didn't have any content and was feeling uninspired for insta. It's getting much harder with the new algorithm :(

    • One of the main reasons I was on Instagram less was also a lack of content due to the weather, but it's a good excuse sometimes to take a break. I get uninspired at times but breaks definitely help!

  • I remember reading some time ago that in order to be successful on Instagram you have to post frequently and consistently. I agree with the latter, consistency is key but in terms of frequency I'd rather post quality content a few times a week than average content twice every day. I think having a break to stay creative and stay present with other things in life is totally okay and necessary. There's more to life than Instagram :)

    • I love that! Thanks for reminding me because I definitely find myself consumed with Instagram at times.

  • Love what you wrote here babe!! I can't agree more, I used to post at least 3 times a day when I first started blogging and now looking back I can't believe how stressed out I was..my whole life was my feed lol!! Now I'm okay with taking a break and not posting every single day :)

    • Since I have two upcoming trips, I know they will force me to be off social media, but I am looking forward to it :)

  • I find it so tough to balance everything. I constantly find that I’m trying to play catch up. I’ve decided to post on IG M-T and take Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. I need too.

    • Taking weekends off is a good idea. With all the traveling ahead of me, I will be taking a social media break which is great!

  • Wow, looks like you have a really busy schedule in the coming months! I actually don't post on Instagram everyday either because I'd rather post photos that I like anyways. And it's important for me to engage with other users because it's quite fun :) Good luck with all your upcoming projects, looking forward to more content and Youtube videos!
