WELLNESS INDUSTRY TRENDS

With everything that’s been going on, I have personally seen a shift in my values from all aspects of my life including beauty, nutrition and wellness. Since we are all staying in and being quarantine, I know that many of us are experiencing the same feelings and more or less have a switch in our mindset especially since we are staying indoors.

As I am entering my fourth week of isolation, I have noticed a few different habits forming and I have come to realize that we are all going to come out of this with a newer perspective on wellness. Three wellness trends that you can expect as an outcome from this include:

  • Embracing Minimalism
    • Less make-up: My skin is loving this quarantine life right now because I am allowing it to breathe. I personally don’t wear a lot of makeup to begin with but this time has made me feel more comfortable with my bare face!
    • Low Maintenance: Similarly, I am not doing anything to my hair at the moment and let’s not even talk about my nails because it’s been bare as well. However, I am actually okay with being low maintenance because I am learning to accept and love myself in this plain and raw manner.
    • Less materialistic needs: I also haven’t been shopping or having my eyes on the fancy things in life. Since I am not going outside, I feel like my priorities have changed and I haven’t thought about materialistic things at all.
  • Moving to Sustainability, Local and Environmentally Conscious Products and Brands
    • Caring about Sustainability: There has been a rise in sustainability since 2020 started but I think after all of this, there will be an even bigger movement towards it. Consumers are going to care about the ingredients in their products and will shift to buying clean, sustainable products including makeup, clothing, cleaning and miscellaneous products.
    • Rise of Locally Made Products: In addition to sustainability, consumers will care about where products are made and will support local businesses to avoid shipments from overseas.
  •  Year of Wellness
    • Importance of Vitamins/ Supplements: I already knew that 2020 would be the year of wellness as more people are prioritizing self care, mental health and meditation. With this pandemic, there will be more of a focus on diet and nutrition. Vitamins and supplements have soared since this crisis and people will now have all the necessary products in stock or even have monthly subscriptions to these products.
    • Prioritizing Fitness: With all of us being quarantine at home, a lot of people have resorted to in home workouts. Once we are able to be outdoors, there will be a lot of people who will probably take on running and exercising because this goes to show that if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.

These trends will actually make us become stronger and more resilient. There are always positives to a situation and this pandemic will truly change our mindset and values if it hasn’t already.

My skin actually loves the quarantine life – it’s healthier than ever. And yes, I learn day by day to love me in this raw form which is a great step ahead. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful blog post.

I’m glad to hear that! I feel the same way especially about minimalism 🙂

I’m so with you on the minimalism. I think during this time, I can really see the difference between things I want and what I actually need.

I have definitely found myself embracing minimalism in quarantine as well. I really miss putting together outfits and wearing makeup, but that’s just not a great use of our time right now. Even though I can’t wait for things to go back to normal, I really hope everything isn’t exactly the same because this shift to at home living has had such a wonderful impact on the environment!

I agree and love that you can see the benefits to it. Although I do not love staying home, there are definitely upsides for sure!

Yes lets hope people learn something from this. But sadly I think it will be business as usual once this is all said and done. It should be a big wake up call on the environment and each country being self sufficient and producing everything it needs. People would then have to get use to paying more but then also buying less. Then there is the issue of AI. Kevin Russo of the NY Times among many others has correctly predicted that by 2030 so 9.5 years from %40 of all jobs will be lost world wide. How is that going to be sustainable?

Wow that’s insane and I hope that we can do something about it. I am honestly also concerned about the economy but I’m trying to be somewhat hopeful!

I’ve been really low maintenance too – my nails have been bare for weeks! This is an interesting thing to think about, and I’m curious to see what changes come about from this!

I was thinking to myself that this time last year, I’d probably be out shopping for spring clothes, but since I’m not going anywhere, I haven’t had any desire to do any shopping, which is great for my wallet and also for me to minimize the things I own. I’m also loving the fact that I haven’t been wearing makeup in over a month and my skin appreciates it.
