NYFW is right around the corner and I am already a bit overwhelmed with all of the events and shows. I am using my own advice from last year on how to prepare for the beautiful madness, but I also thought it would be a great idea to list 5 things that I learned from last year’s NYFW that I thought would be helpful in preparation for the February show.
I just wanted to quickly disclaim that I am obviously no NYFW pro attendee. Last year was my first year even going to NYFW and this will be my first time for the February show. It’s a lot of fun and there’s so many things happening at once, but it can also be tiresome and stressful if you let the chaos get to you. I hope that if you do attend NYFW, you will find my tips below helpful.
- Wear comfortable shoes: I know we all want to look amazing and there’s no better feeling than walking the streets of NYC with some killer heels, but I’ve learned the hard way that you will be in pain at the end of the day especially running from one event to another. If you guys can wear heels all day long, then more power to you! And if you are one of those that takes an uber from one destination to another, then this probably won’t affect you. But for the majority of us, I would recommend bringing a pair of flats to go from one place to another or simply finding shoes that are stylish yet comfortable.
- Bring a snack: Maybe this advice only pertains to me, but I am always hungry and I don’t like relying on events for food because I have in the past and have sadly been disappointed. I would suggest bringing something simple like a granola bar that can help get you through the afternoon slump because the days can be long!
- Bring your phone charger/ extra battery: Now this might be a given since we are all attached to our phones, but I know my phone definitely doesn’t last from the time I leave my apartment to the time I return at night. You will need it to take a selfie, share your experiences through Instagram story and of course, photos for the gram!
- Don’t feel like you need to attend everything: If you get invited to events, definitely RSVP because I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. However, don’t feel like you need to go to every single show and party. Last year, I played it by ear by going with how I felt after a certain show or event. If I was too tired, I didn’t force myself to attend something that I committed to because you don’t want to over exhaust your body. That being said, definitely plan ahead and prioritize what shows and events you want to go to because there will definitely be overlaps!
- Be in the moment: I know so many people feel like they need to take pictures and share what’s happening on social media during NYFW, but it is okay to put away your phone at times and just be in the moment. I like to take videos of a runway show for the first few minutes of a show, but then I put it away because I want to admire the clothing and actually feel like I am watching a show instead of recording it. You don’t need to capture everything! Remember that NYFW should be fun!
I am excited for NYFW but I also feel a little anxious. My plan for the next week is to map everything out and see what venues I am going to, how I am getting there, etc. The key to conquering NYFW is planning and I cannot stress that enough! Let me know if you are attending any shows this year. I would love to meet up with any of you if you will be in NY!

Thank you Josie! I hope you attend in September :)
Great advice. I always used to wear heels to fashion week since I always wore heels, but I don't walk around the city as much as I used to. In Toronto and New York, you're walking and taking metro everywhere. In LA... you're driving everywhere, so my feel aren't used to all the walking anymore haha. If you're around this season, we should definitely grab a coffee and snack, Mariann. :)

Such great tips babe!!! Remember by fist NYFW in February that was snowing and I was wearing heels and late as usual hahaha My bf had to carry me because not even with comfortable shoes I could walk since the snow was so bad.
Hope you enjoy the shows.

As much as I love to dress up for fashion week, I have also learned to be comfortable and wise in choosing my outfits!
