I haven’t officially announced it on my blog, but I think it’s time to be open and say that I quit my job! This actually happened about a month ago and I took the risk to pursue blogging as a full time career! This is a very exciting transition, but it was a difficult one to make to say the least. It had always been a goal of mine to put all my time, energy and effort to my blog, but I kept putting it off in fear that I wouldn’t be able to support myself financially. I would be lying if I said I still don’t have this fear as I am writing this post.

I was weighing the pros and cons as I normally do when I don’t know what to do, but books like You are a badass and The Power of Now really gave me the push to pursue my dreams. I realized that if you have a certain goal or dream in mind, just go for it. Yes there are risks, but you will figure it all out. Nothing is going to be perfect and I already adopted that mindset from the beginning. For me, I was waiting for the “right” time to take the plunge, but after much thought, I realized there’s never going to be a “right” time. In my current situation and my current phase in my life, this is the time that I actually can do it. I don’t have any huge responsibilities like a family or kids, so this is the time that I can explore and basically be selfish and live for myself.

This isn’t to say that I will never get another job, but I realized that I want to do more than working for a company. I actually want to work for myself, be my own boss and actually make something out of myself as a brand. I’ve grown so much with my blog and I realized there are a lot of things that I want to accomplish. I have also come to realized that I don’t want to label myself as a blogger even though I know that’s what I am in the moment. I have projects in the works and other endeavors that I want to take on while using my blog and social media as a foundation and fuel. And for those who are scared to do it, remember that there always ways to make money. You can take on freelance gigs or even part time job. It is not the end of the world if you decide to quit your job.

I know that not everybody can actually make the decision to quit their jobs since all of our life circumstances vary. But I will say if you put your mind to it and hustle like you’ve never done before, it is possible. I don’t regret my decision and I will admit that there are times when I am not as confident in this field, but I remember that nothing will come easy if you don’t put in the work. I am still figuring out ways to grow, but I am happy that I made this decision solely for myself. I also wasn’t ready to announce it when it happened because I wasn’t sure if I was going to stick with the decision a month later, but now that I have, I’ve decided to share it with all of you. I can’t say this will take off and I will be “self employed” forever, but I know that right now, it works for me and I cannot be any happier.

If you are a full time blogger, please tell me about your experience with your decision and any tips you have since I am just starting out. If you are still working, but want to pursue blogging, tell me what your fears are! I would love to help out and maybe write more posts regarding making blogging a full time career.

Thank you so much Marian for this motivational post..I have always wanted to pursue my blogging career and since I have not achieved much as a blogger yet, I get scared time to time if this is not for me or if I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Your post motivates me so much to go out there and fight for myself but being a full time student and working part time makes it so hard to take some time out for myself as a blogger..if you have any tips please share with me. I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Hey girl, reading this blog post was so inspirational! I am so excited for your new journey as a full-time blogger and cannot wait for what future projects are in store for you 🙂 I’m currently a full-time blogger too chasing this dream career of mine, but I’m not where I want to be yet! But the first step is actually making the leap to quit the corporate life to become your own girl boss 🙂 It’s definitely not an easy task to be your own boss, but the fuel that keeps me going is knowing that I wake up every day doing what I love 🙂 I wish you the best of luck! <3

WOW babe this must been a hard decision but I know the right one. I was in your shoes almost 5 months ago too where I quit my almost 9 years dream job. Is a scarry change because I feel the same way about financially but it took me almost 1 year to quit and finally make the decisions. Receiving a big salary every month sure pays the bills and you are in your confort zone but are you happy? that’s when I realized the same as you. Its been 8 years and do I still want to continue in the same position? I wanted something bigger and growth personally. My advice is to enjoy every moment and have lots of patience. Good things always take time but at the end will worth every penny:) I’m so excited for you and see more about your blog and brand. If I ever come again to NYC I will let you know to have a coffee.

xoxo
Marcy

Definitely looking forward to taking a risk on doing this one day soon! You have definitely motivated me to do so. I’m actually moving next month and will be working part-time, rather than full-time, so hopefully that pushes me closer towards that path. I would love to read more posts for motivation on how it’s going for you, tips, etc 🙂

I think your plan of moving from full time work to part time work will definitely help you work for yourself. It is definitely doable! You just have to make a strategy and go for it 🙂

OMG! I quit my job exactly a month ago too and starting this week am doing this full time and I’ve been through all the same phases as you and am still unsure of how all this will end up, but what I AM sure of is that I gave up a boring (but financially stable) job to actually pursue my dreams and that’s what everyone should do! So huge congrats to us both and best of luck!

Congrats on taking the plunge! I know you’ll love being your own boss. It can be scary at times, but the freedom is totally worth the risk. There are options for healthcare like if you sign up with freelancer.org or you can sign up for Affordable Care, but I don’t know how much longer that will last. Otherwise, I bet you have so much more time now to focus on taking the blog to the next level!

As Marcy mentioned, you have to stay motivated … there will be good days, bad days but nothing compares to being able to do what you really love on a daily basis!

These are some of the same reasons and thoughts I had when quitting mine. I definitely found over here at least that I have needed to take on freelance work as well as the blogging jobs can be great one month and then quieter in another month. I wish you all the best!
