Ten Reasons to Visit Venice Italy

If you’re planning an Italy vacation, then make sure you visit Venice! When people think of Venice, I’m sure photos of canals and gondolas come to mind. And some might overlook this city and not include it in their itinerary. However, I am here to show you ten reasons why you should visit Venice, Italy!

Personally, Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy simply because it has no roads, just canals. It is built on a group of 118 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by over 400 bridges. The city is quite small, so I don’t think you need more than two days here. I actually did a day trip and that was sufficient for me. However, if you’re more of a leisure traveler, then feel free to stay there longer!

TEN REASONS TO VISIT VENICE, ITALY

1. 1. 1. 1. Check off gondola ride: As I mentioned before a gondola ride might be touristy, but it is a must do in Venice! From my research, a ride costs about 80 Euro and this is per party, not per person. They only take cash, so make sure you have enough. There are also tons of different gondola options so I would advise to walk around and talk to the gondoliers to see which one you have a connection with. You can also book a ride in advance online and pay by credit card but this would most likely be with a group.    2. There are photo opportunities everywhere: If you love photography as much as me, then Venice is a perfect destination for you.
   3. 1. There are photo opportunities at every corner and the canals make for great backdrops and subjects. You can admire the stunning architecture and it’s hard not to fall in love with Venice just by looking at the buildings!
   4. There are great museums: Although I didn’t personally visit any museums, there are a several worth noting. Those include Gallerie dell’Accademia, Palazzo Ducale, Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, and Museo Storico Navale. 
   5. Admire Venetian Glass: There are shops all around Venice and most of them feature Venetian Glass goods. Venetian Glass also known as Murano Glass, is also a symbol of Venice. It is typically made on the island of Murano near the city. You will see a lot of shops featuring Venetian Glass items such as jewelry, glassware, household items, etc. I actually bought necklaces that were Venetian Glass for my friends and they loved it!
      
      

      

      

• Delicious food: It’s probably a given that the food in Venice is delicious since it’s part of Italy.

1. I always think travel and food goes hand in hand.

Therefore, I’m sure that you will enjoy the delicious pasta, pizza and gelato that are available here!

• Fun to explore: You don’t need a map in Venice because it’s a great excuse to explore aimlessly.

1. Venice has many canals, alleyways and random quiet areas. It’s a great place to fully immerse yourself and have fun. You’ll be surprised by what you come across and what you discover!

1. Beautiful Weather: Venice has beautiful weather in the spring and summer! I visited beginning of June and I thought the weather was perfect. 2. Stunning bridges: The bridges are an extension of the photo opportunities and the Venetian canals, but they themselves are also worth highlighting. The most popular ones are probably Rilato Bridge, Bridge of Sighs, Ponte delle Guglie and Scalzi Bridge. However, my personal favorite is Ponte Maria Callas. 3. Venice has a lot of history and charm: Have you ever wondered by Venice was built on water? A quick history overview would give you insight! In the 5th century, people fled their homes to avoid barbarian conquerors. They actually used the marshy lagoon for protection. As the invasions continued across Italy, more and more refugees joined the first settlers and the need to build a new city grew. Because the wood was underwater, it didn’t rot. It’s hard to believe, but there are many buildings in Venice today that are still standing on 1000 year old piles of wood!
4. Venice is close to other Italian places: Like most places in Europe, they are close to each other and this can be said for Venice. The reason why I visited was because it was only a 3 hour high speed train ride from Milan. You can also travel from Venice to Rome in four hours or go to Bologna which only takes two hours.
