WEEKAPAUG INN, RHODE ISLAND

Earlier this year, I told myself that I wanted to explore more of the states because I think there are tons of hidden gems that I have yet to discover. Although I love traveling and don’t mind flying for hours, there’s something more calm and hassle free when it comes to domestic travel. I haven’t been to Rhode Island before so I was excited to do a one night stay at Weekapaug Inn, which is conveniently located about three hours driving from the city or an easy quick Amtrak ride from Penn Station.

Located on the Rhode Island shoreline overlooking Quonochontaug Pond and the Atlantic Ocean just beyond, Weekapaug Inn offers quintessentially New England accommodations that effortlessly combine casual comfort and luxurious furnishings. Farm-to-table dining utilizes the finest and freshest locally sourced ingredients, and inspired amenities and resort activities are designed to create extraordinary guest experiences.

Considering that I moved to a new apartment in July, my travels this summer were pretty limited as I prioritize settling in instead of packing up and traveling. I realized that I didn’t have a chance to “getaway” and I was surprised by how beneficial my one day trip to Weekapaug Inn would be. Upon arriving, I was completely immersed in the quietness of the town and the calming sounds of nature. The property truly is “a home away from home” and I can understand why it draws so many North Eastern residents especially during the peak summer months.

The Buffums founders started the inn back in 1899 with the goal to make it a resort for families. They knew they could appeal to the Weekapaug beach community by offering the beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean and Quonochontaug Pond. I visited right after Labor Day Weekend so I lucked out in missing the crowds. In a way, I felt like I had the whole inn all to myself! There are 27 rooms and 4 signature suites, all designed with hospitality, comfort and relaxation in mind. The inn was remodeled in 2010 after it was destroyed by the hurricane of 1938. The new design is inspired by modern furnishings as well as vintage pieces to maintain its history. I could truly feel the preservation of the inn’s charm and it was almost impossible not to feel at home.

I realized how quickly our bodies can adjust from our environment because I automatically forgot my worries earlier in the day. There are many activities that you can do at Weekapaug Inn including:

  • Beach
  • Biking
  • Game and Sports
  • Pool + Fitness
  • Hunter Borrowing Closet: Weekapaug Inn has partnered with Hunter to launch a new boot and outerwear borrowing closet to enhance the guest experience.
  • The Lawn: The great backyard of our Rhode Island resort ā€“ known as The Lawn ā€“ offers what so many of us need in a family vacation getaway: sunshine, fresh air, room to breathe and sweeping views of a beautiful seascape
  • Volvo Program: Weekapaug Inn is pleased to partner with Volvo to offer guests an unparalleled driving experience.

Since I was only staying for a night, I opt for a walk on the beach as well as an afternoon relaxation by the pool. However, the highlight of my stay would definitely have to be my evening at the Pondhouse, which is an interactive dining experience that “features a savory, locally sourced three-course menu that guests can personally grill pond-to-plate over the flames of a unique, finely forged grill inlaid into the dining table and each course is thoughtfully paired with iconic Louis Roederer Champagnes.”

I couldn’t have asked for a better evening because the sunset was absolutely stunning and I really enjoyed having a meal that overlooks the pond. I was able to soak in the view as well as indulge in the delicious food. Although it got a little chilly towards the night, there were ponchos available and the heat from the grill made eating outside bearable. The staff also told me that they do s’mores in the evening so that was something that I was looking forward to all day. Since I live in the city, making s’more outdoors is truly a privilege!

Overall, I can not rave enough about Weekapaug Inn and I want to thank them for hosting me. The next time I visit, I need to stay for more than a night because it was a getaway that I didn’t even know I needed! I felt better leaving than I did arriving and I think that’s how most getaways should be. If I can summarize my stay in one word, it would be Bliss as emphasized in the photo above šŸ™‚Ā  After the trip, I remember telling my friend that I would consider having a place in Rhode Island and coming from a New Yorker, that’s saying a lot! Now that I’m getting older, I am truly finding comfort in a peaceful environment and making more of an effort to get in touch with nature and silence. If you guys are looking for a getaway even in the fall, check out Weekpapaug Inn as the Pondhouse experience is available until October!
